Chuck,I would like to thank you for your hard work and dedication to the city of phila. I remember a few of our conversations during my youth about my intrest in being a police officer and seeing you in the district from time to time you always displayed such kindness and once again I thank you, and although we are faced with such tragedy you will be missed but your legacy lives on.
sincerly
Barry.

The Policeman's Last Roll Call A Policeman stood and faced his God, which always comes to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now Policeman, how shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church, have you always been true?" The Policeman squared his shouldersand said, "No Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been violent, because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep, though I've worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around, except to calm their fear. If you got a place for me Lord, it needn't be so grand. I never expected or had to much, but if you don't, I'll understand." There was silence all around the throne where the Saintshad often trod. As the Policeman waited quietly, for the judgment of his God. "Step forward now Policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets..........YOU'VE DONE YOUR TIME IN HELL". (Anonymous Author) I always liked this poem...it has so much meaning, my condolences to Chuck's wife, children and family, Only time will ease the hurting but take solace in knowing Chuck is now in a better place, looking down, caring and protecting you. Chuck will enjoy watching you all go on with your lives and wait patiently for the day when you will all be united again. God bless you all, as God is now blessing Chuck.

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Officer Cassidy, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

At this time of inconsolable sorrow, I pray that Chuck's family and friends can find some comfort in his memory with the passing of time.

In the 1980's,I knew Chuck from the 39th District, although we worked in different squads. In the 1990's when I was a sergeant, he worked for me in the 35th District. No one who knew him needs my assessment of his professionalism - they witnessed it. When you ask ordinary people about the true measure of a police officer, they usually respond by saying, "Where are they when I need them?" The people inside the coffee shop at 66th & Broad St. needed one on October 31, 2007 - and Chuck was there. But he was "there" for 25 years whenever people needed him. He touched so many lives during the course of his service. He was "there" late in a career at a point when most others had sought less demanding assignments. He lit the lamp and illuminated the way for us to follow.

If service to others is the price we pay for our time on Earth, then Chuck left us "paid in full." Let's never allow him to look down to find any of us "in arrears."

God speed, my friend.

To the family of Officer Cassidy
I cannot imagine how you feel, I would like to give my deepest condolences for the loss of your father, husband and much more than that to so many people. A loss is a loss, however the loss of a police officer is special because of our God given responsibility (Romans 13). I will pray for God to give you grace and strength during this most difficult situation.
