We just lost one of our young officers. I can't think of your pain for someone who has done his job everyday to be done over coffee. I wish you any...any... way to help. I work midnights so I'm not always busy.

My hear breaks when I think of your wife, daughters and son. I remember the day you helped me when I got one of those calls--I can't imagine the awful sorrow in your family's hearts...I see you still, on your watch--waving as we drive in front of your car and pass us on the corner. We will miss seeing you yes, in the neighborhood--but more specially at those "OTHER" activities--those ball games--may your family find some comfort knowing how you have touched so many

Someone killed a policeman today and
A part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect who shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids
And spend many long lonely nights,
The beat that he walked was a battlefield too,
Just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yep, somebody killed a policeman today
In your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on the dark city street
And he stands at each rookie's side.
He answered the call, of himself gave his all
And a part of America died.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Officer Cassidy and his family. Anyone who has ever worked a beat knows that this type of happenstance can happen at any given time. God bless you for doing your job. It is such a shame that 25 years of dedicated service have to end with such a tragic event. Your brothers and sisters in law enforcement will never forget your ultimate sacrifice.

Although I never had the opportunity to meet you in person, after reading the through the pages upon pages of thoughts left behind from others that have known you, it is certain that you were a great cop. Thank you for making the ultimate sacrafice. May your family find comfort and may you protect your fellow brothers and sisters in blue. As for the man that did this, his hours are numbered and it is only a matter of time before he is found. Say hello to my uncle up there, Det. Costello #8087...
