Reflections for Chief of Police Randy Wells
I knew for a long time from his reputation as a kind and caring law enforcement officer. Then I got to meet him in real life and truly saw how special he was. He was the type of person you could sit down with and talk for hours about anything (not just law enforcement). He will truly be missed by me. On behalf of my department, we salute you.

“REMEMBER ME”
Law enforcement officers are, indeed, a special breed of people. Ask anyone on the street and they will tell you that they would not have our jobs for anything in the world. It takes something special to do what we do and at the same time be able to even contemplate retirement. We try to be optimists. Unfortunately, there are a few of us who will never make that date with retirement. By the very nature of our job, we are at risk everyday of losing our lives, either at the hand of some deranged individual or in some other situation that we, by virtue of our occupation, may be unable to avoid. Some people have recognized the hazardous duties we involve ourselves in, the risks we take, and the pride we take in accomplishing that job. There is National Law Enforcement Week, dedicated to us who gladly accept the responsibility of protecting the citizens in our respective jurisdictions. National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Day is dedicated to those who gave their lives in the line of duty. These are but two examples of remembrances specifically for law enforcement personnel. Remembrances that come but once a year. We should remind fellow officers of another type of remembrance, one that will last a lifetime. Sooner or later, a doctor will pronounce us dead. It is inevitable. Regardless of whatever happens, death is the end we will all have to face.

To the family of Randy,
I just wanted to say I am truly sorry for you loss.
I had the privledge of meeting Randy when I managed two different gas stations that he frequently visited. He used to come in and check up on me and my cashiers. He always had a smile on his face, and a joke or prank up his sleeve to make someone else laugh or smile. I will miss seeing his white camaro on the road. My families thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
Melissa and family.

I count myself fortunate to have meet Chief Wells several times over the past few years during my work as the Office Manager for the KY Association of Chiefs of Police and a training assistant for the KY RCPI.
He was one of the nicest people I have met. I know he will be sadly missed by his family, work family and community family.
It is very tragic, his unexpected death. I pray that his family and friends will find comfort in having had the pleasure of knowing such a fine person.
God Bless each of you.

“In The Line Of Duty”
In Memory Of All Police Officers
Who Have Been Called To Make The Ultimate Sacrifice
What is the meaning of "In The Line Of Duty"
It means that an officer made the Ultimate sacrifice.
It means that someone took an officers life.
A hero has fallen. Officers who gave their all
To protect and serve us
Have been killed by someone whom they swore
To protect and serve.
It means that their badge will no longer be on their chest
And they will join "The Best Of The Best"
It means that family and friends are left behind
To deal with the lost of a loved one.
Only having the memories of that loved one
Close to their hearts. Something no one can ever take away.
It means that family members will stand at the officers grave
And wonder why... Why would someone take an officers life
And leave them there to die?
If we only knew. Today an officer will place their badge on their chest
To fulfill the dreams of heroes killed "In The Line Of Duty"
To all who knew Chief Wells he will never be forgotten and we will keep all of you in our prayers. HE IS A HERO

Such a tragic and unnecessary end for you. I'll always remember your white camaro on our highways. I hadn't talked to you in years, but you were a good guy and loved being a cop. We'll always remember that. Thanks for your service. There is no upside to such a tragedy, but you died a hero and will remain a hero in your fellow officers hearts. I only hope your death serves as a reminder for the patrons of any city to always be aware of construction and cops on the side of our roadways.

You will not be forgotten brother.
POLICEMAN'S PRAYER
When I start my tour of duty God
wherever crime may be,
as I walk the darkened streets alone,
let me be close to Thee.
Please give me understanding
with both the young and old,
let me listen with attention
until their story's told.
Let me never make a judgment
in a rash or callous way,
but let me hold my patience,
let each man have his say.
Lord, if some dark and dreary night,
I must give up my life,
Lord, with your understanding love,
protect my children and wife.
