Reflections for Trooper Brian Carl McMillen
My deepest sympathy to the friends and family of Trooper McMillen. The Illinois State Police has lost a great person who loved his job. Brian, i'll never forget joining the military with you and flying down to basic training together. You were a born leader. Everything you set your mind to, you accomplished. You shared your knowledge with all of us and dedicated yourself to helping others. I'm very proud of you and all of your accomplishments. Rest in peace my dear friend and fellow brother!.....love ya mac

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Trooper McMillen and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Trooper McMillen has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family, friends, and colleagues of Trooper McMillen, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Trooper McMillen is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

Words can not describe the feelings of emptiness your passing brings. I derived a lot of inspiration from you during our academy stay. Your positive attitude and can-do spirit, I know, helped more than this one cadet through those long six months. May you rest in peace, Brother!

We do not forget. Godspeed, Trooper McMillen.
Lord, I pray for healing for this trooper's family and friends. May they find comfort in Your presence, may they remember him always, and may time dull the pain and brighten the memories. Please help them know they do not walk alone, no matter how lonely they feel. Please direct them here and to other family and fellow officers when they need close comfort. Please give them strength and hope. In Christ's name I ask this, Amen.
Peace be with you.

THIS IS JUST A TRAGEDY FOR MANY REASONS. AS WE CAN ALL SEE BY THE PICTURE, BRIAN WAS A VERY YOUNG MAN WITH HIS WHOLE LIFE AHEAD OF HIM.SO MANY CHAPTERS OF HIS "BOOK" WILL NEVER BE WRITTEN. 8 MONTHS AGO HE WAS HAPPY AND EXCITED. 8 MONTHS AFTER HE STARTED HIS CAREER, HE IS GONE. TO HIS WIFE, MY DEEPEST SYMPATHIES. TO HIS PARENTS, I WISH I COULD SOMETHING. WHAT A DAMN SHAME.

It breaks my heart, to see that we have lost yet another brave warrior in the battle against all the evil that runs rampant in this world. My 15 year-old son is already in the Explorer program and wants to become a CSI. He wants to follow in his Pop's footsteps. The very idea of the dangers he will have to face as a policeman, makes my heart hurt. It takes a very special person to do this job. I am praying for this Officer's family just as I will be praying for my son when he joins the family that is law enforcement.

My heart is with Brian's family. There is no way to describe the loss of a fellow officer, especially when the loss is so senseless.
Brian,
Thank you for backing me up on many traffic stops on third watch. We met so many times at the jail bringing DUI's in. I would have never thought they would be the ones to take your life.
Thank you for answering questions that I had so many times. You knew so much about the job, I would have never thought you were so new at it. I will continue to enforce DUI's on the street and think of you and your family. Thank you for your service, help, and sense of humor.
We will all take it from here. Watch over the streets of heaven, Brian. We will all watch over your family and friends; you are a blue angel now. We will all meet again. We will miss you on third watch. 10-42 brother.

“You can shed tears that Brian is gone,
or you can smile because he has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back,
or you can open your eyes and see all he's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see him,
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday,
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember Brian only that he is gone,
or you can cherish his memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back.
Or you can do what he'd want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.”
Rest in Peace Brother.
