Reflections for Officer Sergio Carrera
"A Part of America Died"
Somebody killed a policeman today,
and part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
with counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
and spend many long, lonely nights.
The beat that he walked was a battle field too,
just as if he'd gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
to his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
in your town or mine.
While we slept in comfort behind our locked doors,
a cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
and he stands at each new rookie's side.
He answered the call,
of himself gave his all,
And A Part of America Died.

Sergio,
I am so sad. I grieve with the whole Department. You will be missed by all of us. One of the things that really impressed me about you, besides your humor and kindness, was the bond you shared with your family. I think about Baker 2 Vegas and how your family made those beautiful signs and waited by the side of the road for you to pass. "Go Big Serg" It was an awesome sight. I was touched at how much love you shared with your family.
You lived your life on a righteous path. God will take care of you now. Rest in Peace, Big Serg

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Carrera and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Carrera has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family, friends, and colleagues of Officer Carrera, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Carrera is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
For those who pledge to uphold it, Freedom requires a sacrifice the protected will never know.

Please accept my sincere condolences to the wife, children, and co-workers of Officer Sergio Carrera. While no words can ease your pain know that we honor your husband and father. They say it takes a special breed to be a police officer, what then to make a SWAT operator. Very few accept the tremendous responsibility of going where other fear to tread. Sergio was one of those few and tragically paid the ultimate sacrifice for his fellow team members. None of us ever want to fall but if we must go, let it be doing that which we love. We can always use another good man in the stack. The next squeeze up well be looking for the angel in the back. God bless you and yours.

In Enternal Rest
I never dreamed it would be me. My name for al eternity,
recorded here at this hallowed place alas, my name, no more my face. "In the line of duty," I hear them say; My family knew the price to pay. My folded flag stained with their tears; We only had those few short years. The badge no longer on my chest, I sleep now in eternal rest. My sword I pass to those behind, And pray they keep this thought in mind. I never dreamed it would be me, And with heavy heart and bended knee, I ask for god,let my name be last....
I still remember the first day we meet and your smile that I will never forget. You are a true hero in my eyes.I will always remember you and have you in my heart.I will always keep you in my prayers. RIP SERGIO
