Reflections for Sergeant Gary Wayne Henderson
THE FALLING OFFICE . AND THIS IS HOW I FEEL ABOUT ALL THE OFFICE THAT HAS GIVE THER LIVES FOR US MY GOD BE WIH ALL THER FAMILY
..> BENEATH THE BADGE
In every city of this country
Beneath the waving flag
There is a special group
Committed to their call
And they stand for truth and justice
In a nation under God
No matter what the cost
They will uphold the law
To assure us of our safety
They place their lives on the line
Lend a hand to those in need
When help is hard to find
Beneath the badge
There beats a heart
So full of courage
A light in the dark
Beneath the badge
There's only one aim
To serve the people
Knowing that it starts
Beneath the badge
When the day is finally over
And they find themselves at home
They may lay down their badge
But the call is carved in stone
And though at times it gets so lonely
And the stakes seem so high
Still they will proudly serve
Though their names may be unknown
To assure us of our safety
They place their lives on the line
Lend a hand to those in need
When help is hard to find
Beneath the badge
There beats a heart
So full of courage
A light in the dark
Beneath the badge
There's only one aim
To serve the people
Knowing that it starts
Beneath the badge
There are some who've found the calling
Cost them everything they had
Like a wife who gave a husband
Or a child who gave a dad
Beneath the badge
There beats a heart
So full of courage
A light in the dark
Beneath the badge
There's only one aim
To serve the people
Knowing that it starts
Beneath the badge
Beneath the badge

Gary was my friend, brother in blue and most importantly, my Christian brother. I am confident of where Gary is now. Words alone could not sufficiently explain how much you fellow brothers and sisters and citizens across the country expressed mean to us, me, his family and friends. My wife and I sat down last night and read every reflection here for Gary. We wept. All of you described Gary exactly the way he lived. Your kind words have blessed us. Thankyou. God Bless, Dave Prov. 17:17

What a terrible accident. God must have needed a good officer upstairs, that's the only way something like this could have happened. I salute you, and cover my badge with a band of black in your memory. Rest in peace, Sergeant. Thanks for your many years of service to our state and to your community. Thanks for backing up your brother officer in the interest of his safety. You did your job well, and now will work a much friendlier beat.

I had the honor of serving with this man for the past nine years and I can say that he was one of the best people I have ever served with. He always had a kind word to say about everyone and was always joking around with his fellow officers and the public. I always considered him to be a TRUE friend. One you could always count on and talk to about anything on your mind. I will miss him and the friendship we shared.

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders
and said, "No Lord. I guess I ain't.
Because those who carry badges,
can't always be a saint."
"I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough...
and sometimes I've been violent
because the streets are awful tough."
"But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep...
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep."
"And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I wept unmanly tears."
"I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear."
"If you've a place for me here, Lord,
it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But, if you don't...I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne,
where saints had often trod,
as the policeman waited quietly
for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets.
You've done your time in hell."
