It's almost been 6 years since you left us to be with the Lord. I am still so very saddened by the events that led to your departure from us. You were a great asset to our community and our Police Department. I miss our chats about life and especially discussing your love for children. We had that in common! Your son,Kyle is gonna be just like you! You set such great examples of how a dad, husband, friend, officer,Sargeant .......etc, should be. I am proud to have called you my friend. Thanks for all you done for me to get my son back. I feel more guilty than anyone could ever imagine, and it never goes away. I'm deeply sorry for what your family has went through due to the misbehaviors and criminal acts of two teenagers. I will never forget you, I will see you again someday and have the opportunity to say, IM DEEPLY SORRY! God bless your family.

I never knew you but I know your son. He's a good man. I look at your picture and see the resemblence between you two. Out of all of the police officers in this town he is probably the most liked. He understands people make mistakes and he makes sure justice is brought to those who deserve it. I never liked cops until I met your son. Honestly, I look up tok him as a friend. He gives me hope. I want to take this time to thank you for your services and I know you are truly missed by your loved ones.

I knew Gary through his son, Kyle. Kyle and I became friends and I had the pleasure of getting to spend some time with Gary. He was a very knowledgable police officer, but better yet just a great, friendly guy. I know Kyle is continuning to make him proud and I hope that someday I can enjoy some more Chinese food with him.

Hey Dad!!!

So, I'm on "administrative leave" as I'm sure you already know! I believe you were looking down on us all.. It is not an easy thing to do to take another life. I thank you for all that you have done, and the protection you have provided! I am what you made me! Thankyou for being you!

Hey Dad -
Just checking in with you-
I know you probably can't believe what you're seeing down here - can you believe it, they're actually letting me ( your son) train new officers!! I remember you telling me how when you came back out to the street after like 15 years in detectives and Deputy Chief that some of the guys you hired were now "retraining" you! LOL.. I'm laughing now just at the thought of you sitting next to me, and ME telling YOU what to do! Like I could ever compare to you at this stage in my career!

In 3 days we'll hold the 3rd annual Sgt. Gary W. Henderson Golf Outting - and guess what - it grows every year so far! And Bobby, you should see him, what he does in your memory and the time he puts in to help me and Mom - it is beyond what we could ask for! He truly is like your dear ole' friend Bob Sr.! He would do anything for us!You would be so proud of him!

I am who I am because of you, I'll always do what is right because of you, I'll always be the best man I can be because of YOU.

Thank you so much for who you were and still are, and the devotion and guidance you gave me. I'll NEVER let you down!

Kyle - your SON.

We miss you 120! I am sure you know that IMPD just lost a great officer like yourself and it hits close to home. I am sure you two are walking the streets above together and are telling us all down here that we have nothing to worry about. Please keep all of us safe! You are never forgotten.

Hey Dad,
Bennett and I were in the report writing room tonight talking about how we carried the shift and took 16 calls tonight! I couldn't help but think about you limping through the kitchen, holding your back with that silly smile, telling how "oohhh, my back hurts, I carried the shift tonight!" Everyday I hope you're proud of the job I do, and how I try to treat people the way you taught me. The greatest compliment I ever receive is always - "I knew your Dad, he was a great man, and you're following right in his footsteps." We still talk about the back brace sometimes, and Capt. Weidner constantly reminds me that he saved my life on several occassions when the 2 of you talked about me. It's been 2 years, and not a day, a shift, a football game, a song, my puppy...nothing - that doesn't make me think of you. The golf benefit was amazing this year. So many people came out in your memory! I realize more and more everytime someone talks to me about you how lucky I am to have had 27 years with a Dad like you! Please keep all the guys safe, and help me be the best I can be!

Your Son,
Kyle - #136

Missed you at the holidays again...miss you everyday. Your tragedy has effected so many of us - especially my sister. I can't tell you the times she's told me that she misses her Gary Wayne. It still doesn't seem real. You left us so quickly, so tragically, so unselfishly.
