First and foremost I offer my deepest sympathy to your family, friends, fellow Deputies, and to all the departments and agencies that you have so honorably served.I started coming to this site when one of our young officers was struck by a vehicle and died. Each time I click my mouse to open up this page, I keep praying not to see another name added. It always saddens me to read about another, but I feel compelled to come and read, and to write something to those whom I never knew, so as to honor each of you for the service you each gave.Reading about all the different agencies you worked with, and giving the ultimate sacrifice, please know you will not be forgotten. I know the Angels have carried you far up into the heavens above, where as God has you in his loving arms, 10-4 forever more. "A Hero does not become a Hero by their death, but by how they lived their life." God Bless!

Deputy Burke,
I honor you, your name, your memory and mostly, for the ultimate sacrifice you made protecting the citizens and guests of our country. I honor you for your many contributions to both local and federal law enforcement . . but most of all I honor you for daring to walk the path of the warrior.
"You are not gone until you are forgotten" and we will never forget you . . . I went to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center this afternoon, and all the flags were at half staff. Your name will forever be etched into the law enforcement memorial there as well as the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington D.C. With the pride and honor that is synonymous with the United States Marshals Service, they will insure that you live forever in the memories of all to come. You rest easy now my brother . . . we'll do our best to cover your watch on our thin blue line. With brotherly love and utmost respect, Jim Crotty (former Richmond, VA Police Officer.)
