Reflections for Police Officer Nicki James "Nick" Erfle
"No more the bugle calls the weary one.
Rest, noble spirit, all thy work is done.
I will find you and know you among the
good and true.
When a robe of white we're given
for our faded coats of blue."

Yesterday was "our" birthdays, and I thought about you often. I cannot believe it has been two years now, since I got to spend my birthday with you. I was thinking about the play we went to, and how much we all loved it. It reminded me when I was little and you were always at my birthday parties, getting us into so much trouble, but alwasy so much furn. It is still so hard to believe you are gone. Please keep us all in your heart, as I know you are in all of ours. I miss you Uncle Nicki! Merry Christmas!

On the 1st anniversary of Officer Erfle's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Officer Erfle is not forgotten.

Officer Erfle served proudly and was deeply loved and respected by those who
knew him. It is a tragedy to lose him. We never know when our lives on this
earth will end, but we can make a reservation in Heaven now and assure us a
place when God calls us to Himself. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life
(John 14:6) and He PAID the price for our sins on the Cross so we don't have to pay the penalty for our sins. Yipee! If we accept His payment by faith we can have salvation and spend eternity with Him in Heaven. It is not something we must earn, it is a gift. The most precious one we can ever receive. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith_and this not from yourselves, it is the GIFT of God_not by good deeds, so that no one can boast." Ephesians 2: 8,9. For without faith, it is impossible to please God. And our faith must be in God's only Son, Jesus Christ.
You were a credit to the uniform, Officer Erfle. My heart goes out to your
loved ones left behind and may the Lord comfort them as only He can do.

To the family and friends of Officer Nick Erfle and to his fellow officers in the Phoenix Police Department, and most especially to Nick:
One behalf of our entire family, we wish to pay honor to Nick's memory on the first anniversary of the day Nick so tragically lost his life. His heroism, valor and bravery will be forever remembered.
May you be continue to be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. I know from reading reflections your family has found some healing in helping other families on this painful journey. We grieve for you and with you.
Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot in April of 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are still experiencing. We know the meaning of lives forever changed because those bullets didn't just kill our beloved officers, but killed a part of everyone who loved them so dearly.
Julie, I regret the hurtful remarks aimed at you by a local disc jockey, and sent an e mail to him telling him I found them offensive and over the line.
Rest in Peace, Nick., May your spirit continue to soar and your memory continue to inspire.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Nick gave to his community and the citizens of Arizona, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 18, 2007.

A Deputy was killed up here not too far from where we lived during one of our stays in WA. It hit just too close to home- seeing her memorial and processional brought back alot.
After talking about it for years- Darian finally got his four-wheeler. You would laugh- the thing is monsterous! Watch over him when he's out riding... I heard lot of stories about the way you guys handled ATV's when you were young. =)

Nick, We had our fantasy football draft today and needless to say, like alot of things, it wasn't the same. It's been nearly a year now, but it feels like 10. Your the first thing I think of every morning and the last thing before I fall asleep. The only difference the year has made is that I realize it's just not all a bad dream. The shock is gone, but the pain remains. The POS can take you from us physically but you can never be taken from our hearts, our minds, or our souls for that is where you will live forever. You are still and always will be my partner, the seat next to me just looks empty. Continue to rest easy Nick, rest easy. Love you bro...cm7847

Thank you for your service Officer Erfle.
Your story is painful to read. I am thankful for the officer who prevented your murderer from potentially killing again.
A special prayer that your family and coworkers will find peace in the Lord's promises and help from caring people, and that they will encourage each other, so that the actions of your killer and the pain that he caused will be diminished, and the happy memories of YOU will be the ones they carry close.

...back again!
Last night I stopped to remember you. I'm in the middle of a basic law enforcement class, and you're the standard that I hold everyone to... and at the end of every class I wonder if you'd have done something different than the way I taught it.
I have the odd feeling that every day, when I wake up, I want you to be proud.... and yet, you never knew me. I pray for Julie and your two boys every night and pray for all the officers of the Squaw Peak Precinct, because 5, almost 6, months has gone by so fast... yet so slow.
I intend to come to visit tomorrow... Please continue to keep us safe!

Nick, I just felt like stoppin in. I never could have imagined how 5 months could feel like 5 hours and 5 years all at the same time. I still hear your laughter and feel your presence as I continue my watch. Watch over us all Nick, the pain is unbearable at times. Continue to rest in peace pal. cm7847

We worked together on the same squad (72J) for several years and you were always a hard charger. Nick your sense of humor and quick wit always kept me laughing. When Ryan worked with you on the front desk, while you were beating cancer for the second time, he used to come home with some great stories--made me laugh every time. Rest in peace Nick.

Hey Nick,
It's been just over three months now. I still can't help but feel odd. However, you are my hero; you've made an impact on my life in one of the greatest ways possible. I joined the Army Reserve a few weeks ago, and when I couldn't get the job I wanted in medical, I remembered you and the inspiration that you gave me... and then I truly knew that I'm meant to be in law enforcement. I am now a military police officer stationed down here in Mesa, but I helped work an accident with one of Phoenix's finest on South 40th and Broadway, and I'm still a police explorer with Mesa.
Please continue to watch over me... and I'll visit every opportunity that I get.

I came to this site to reflect on friends that I have lost over the years and then again just this weekend. As I read your EOW bio I thought how eerily similar your death and Officer Eric Freeman's was. It just goes to remind us that there is no such thing as a "routine" arrest anymore. My thoughts and prayers are with your family as they are with all officers who put on the badge and go out to protect us every day.
Please welcome Officer Freeman to your watch on Heaven's Force.
God bless you and all the other officers who have gone before you and those who God Forbid come after you.
