Reflections for Police Officer Jose Lazaro Somohano
You guys put your life on the line for us.
I would like to thank you all for your service to
my community. It is too bad that there are scum
that drive around with AK 47 assault rifles
up to no good. But at least the one who shot
you ended up dead himself. Just like Jesus said
those who live by the sword shall die by the sword.
Rest in peace Jose and God be with your family and
friends in this time of sorrow.
God bless you who wear a uniform civilian police or
military that they can serve our community and our
country and at the end of their shift come home alive.

I am very sorry for the loss of this fine officer that gave his life so that others could be safe. As a member of the same police department it breaks my heart to have to add Jose's name to the list of officers killed in the line of duty. My heart and condolences go out to his wife, children, extended family and friends. May the Lord in heaven bless him and may the Holy Spirit give his family comfort during this difficult time. God bless us all.

The subject, wanted in the death of Office Somahano and the shooting of three additional officers, was confronted by tactical officers in Pembroke Pines, FL, late 09-13-2007. After opening fire on the officers, he was shot and died. (I decided not to use the term "killed" as this normally relates to something done unlawfully.)

We lost one of out own three years ago and it still hurts like it was yesterday. Mrs. Somohano, just remember that when your husband jouned the police department his family grew to span the globe and you all became a part of a bigger family. We will embrace you during this time of grief, we will make sure that he will not be forgotten ... it doesn't get easier, it just gets different. To the Somohano Family,
I am ever grateful and deeply sorry for your loss. You gave this Nation a brave and fearless man who would protect and serve until the last moment of his life. There are few such men on this earth, and for that reason Jose will never be forgotten.
You must be so VERY, VERY proud of your courageous husband and father; I certainly am. This Nation is amazed at Jose's display of courage.
Fortunately, the man who injured your loved one now stands front-and-center before his Maker to receive his final sentencing.
From coast to coast, there stands a closely bonded and supportative law enforcement family waiting to help you through this. As the man who hurt Jose learned the hard way, a police officer is never alone. You will find a "sea of blue" to surround and comfort you.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you from here in Texas.
