I am broken-hearted for you all. Ofc. Somohano, thank you and godspeed. Your LEO family has the watch, but they will miss you. Watch over them.

To the family of Ofc. Somohano, the ones of us that are a police officer's family especially grieve for you. My husband still works a beat, has for almost 11 years. We lost a friend and fellow officer last year. We still talk about him alot. It is not the same, and it is not fair, but I wanted you to know that we pray for you and hold you and your officer close to our hearts, now and always. Words are no comfort right now, but I hope as time goes on you will see this and know we are here for you.

Peace be with you all, family, friends, and fellow officers.

To a fallen hero, you will not be forgotten. Our prayers go out to your family and loved ones.

"The Final Inspection"

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Physically upset by the events on September 13, 2007, someone asked me if I knew you. I said no. Jose, I did not have to know you to know that just as I left home and kissed both my boys (ages 3 and 5)and told them to have fun since there was no school, you did the same thing. Just as I planned to take them to the park this weekend and to the pool on Sunday, you also made plans with your family. Just as I arrived to work, greeted co-workders and mapped out my day, you did the same thing. Jose, I know our days ended a little different yesterday but I don't have to know you to know that you gave ultimately yesterday for something we all love doing. I don't have to know you to cry, to hurt and sometimes get angry for what happened. I don't have to know you to know that your wife and children will miss you dearly. Jose, I don't know you but as a fellow officer and member of MDPD I will miss you dearly. I will continue to pray for your family, your injured squad members and the rest of the law enforcement officers that continue to serve our communities.
