Officer Somohano, my heartfelt sorrow goes out to your family, friends, and MDPD. The public always takes for granted what we do for them day in and day out, well now they see how dedicated people like you, will never back down from evil and hate in order to keep the community safe. Your shield has fallen, your fellow brothers and sisters in law enforcement will pick it up and continue the honor of protecting those who cant protect themselves. SEMPER FI brother, rest in peace, we got it from here.

As I have been told time and time again: there's no such thing as a 'routine' traffic stop. This guy must have been pretty desperate to open fire on 4 officers. (I'd love to see the toxicology report). I am just glad that this a**hole was taken off the streets and can do no one else harm. Go easy bro'.

The warrior stood and faced God,
Which will always come to pass,
He hoped his shoes were shinning,
Just as brightly as his brass.
“Step forward now, old warrior,
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?”
The warrior squared his shoulders and
Said, “No, Lord, I guess I ain’t,
‘Cause those of us who carry guns
Can’t always be a saint.
“I’ve had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough,
And sometimes I’ve been violent,
‘Cause the world is awfully rough.
“But, I’ve never took a penny
That wasn’t mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep,
“And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear,
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I’ve wept unmanly tears.
“I know I don’t deserve a place
Among the people here,
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fears.
“If you’ve a place for me here, Lord,
It needn’t be so grand. In life
I didn’t expect nor need too much,
So if you don’t, I’ll understand.”
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod,
As the warrior stood quietly.
For the judgement of his God.
“Step forward now, my warrior,
You’ve born your burdens well,
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets,
You’ve done your time in hell.”

My thoughts and prayers are with the Miami-Dade Police Department and family of Officer Somohano. You risk your lives to protect not only us, but our property. Being in law enforcement is often a thankless job, but you and many fine men and women in blue continue to risk your lives for us.
Warriors dressed in silver & blue,
morning, day, or night, they will protect you.
A hand raised, a sworn oath stated,
to be loved by some and by others hated.
To answer the call whether minor or deadly,
to a stranger in need they will always be friendly.
At times they're given the ultimate test,
uphold the oath and lay your soul to rest.
Whenever they're called, they will be there,
to friends and family it doesn't seem fair.
A sincere thanks and hand salute we raise,
to those in blue who are so truly brave.

My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to the family and friends of Officer Jose Somohano and to the entire Miami-Dade Police Dept. I was assigned to Miami in the mid 90's and had the privilege of working with several Miami-Dade officers. They were all great professionals and I think of them often. God bless you all!
The only good news is that two of the three wounded officers are out of the hospital, the other officer likely will walk again and the cop killer is dead. Good job, SWAT!

You always won, everytime you placed a bet
Youre still damn good, no ones gotten to you yet
Everytime they were sure they had you caught
You were quicker than they thought
Youd just turn your back and walk
You always said, the cards would never do you wrong
The trick you said was never piay the game too long
A gamblers share, the only risk that you would take
The only loss you could forsake
The only bluff you couldnt fake
And youre still the same
I caught up with you yesterday
Moving game to game
No one standing in your way
Turning on the charm
Long enough to get you by
Youre still the same
You still aim high
There you stood, everybody watched you play
I just turned and walked away
I had nothing left to say
cause youre still the same
Youre still the same
Moving game to game
Some thlngs never change
Youre still the same
