Reflections for Police Officer Jose Lazaro Somohano

To the wife of Officer Jose Somohano.I was in bed sleeping from a long night at work and my cell phone was ringing off the wall.I read a Text what my girlfriend sent to me and it said that Officer Somohano was hit and down.I did not get the time to speed alot of time with Officer Somohano but I did get to talk with him and his other brother's in brown.I was riding with a Officer at the time seeing how the life of a Police Officer is and what they deal with.Officer Somohano told me this and it has been ringing in my head day and night.Kevin don't give up if this is what you wan't to do and you wan't it real bad then you give it all your heart and one day your mother and or girlfriend will place this Miami Dade Police Badge on top of your heart. This Officer is a Good man and God had another great Officer next to him.The day I wear the Badge I will have you in my mind.Mrs. Somohano Iam sorry for what happen this does not have to happen to any Officer. We all look up to them wanting to become one when we are of age but people now don't like the Brother's and Sister's of the law but the very few out there who do we all stand together as 1.

May you be looking down at us, while in the Lord's embrace and know that WE WILL NEVER FORGET you and the fine job you did. It was an honor to serve as part of the Honor Guard and have your family comforted in knowning that the pain and loss is felt by all of us - no matter the rank. Your passing is so hard - as it is with all of our brothers which have also passed needlessly... It is a constant reminder to us all to be thankful for all the blessings we have and to hug our childen and loved ones a little tighter next time we see them. I bid you farewell my brother... until one day. R.I.P

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Officer Somohano, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

Jose, we lost you brother, but the Almighty gained an Angel. Our S.R.T took care of the " dirt bag " who took your life. We all know that you won't sit still in Heaven, therefore ask the Lord to give us a lead so we can also bring to justice the piece or pieces of garbage that killed our B.S.O. brother, Sgt. C. Reyka. Thank you for your years of service to our community. You will never be forgotten.

Enough is Enough

I took an oath to protect and serve,
Respect and fairness is what I deserve.
I come to your home all hours of the night,
To comfort your fears and break up the fight.
I have my own life and problems to face,
I handle daily dramas with poise and grace.
I am a daughter, a friend, officer and a wife,
I hold your hand and bare the news of loss of life.
I am human, I have fears but I have to be strong,
Make split second descisons that can't be wrong.
I save a life and rush to put put out the flames,
But, when something goes wrong, who's to blame?
We buried a fellow officer today and my heart aches,
An armed subject with an AK47 made no mistakes.
A son, a friend, an officer no more,
Too much violence on the streets that you can't ignore.
Stricter gun laws for the public and training is a must,
Another officer down is so unjust.
Ill-equipped and poorly trained makes for a losing war,
Is this what to expect and what the future has in-store?
Take a moment and reflect on what you've seen today,
In our hearts and minds, these images will stay,
Respect police officers and the sacrifices they must make,
Their families, their careers, and lives are at stake.
Its in our blood, theres no other place we would rather be,
But, when we lose one, we all hurt, this is one big family.

He died doing what he loved. Being a cop is something you are, not something you do. He trully exemplified that throughout his short career. His life was taken too soon. We will trully miss our fallen brother. ID#4996 09-06.
Rest in peace.

My heart breaks for you and your family, even though you are now in peace. I didn't know you personally, but many people that I know, knew you. I heard you were an all around great person. I believe that when a person goes, it is because it is their time regardless of the circumstances. I don't believe that you deserved to go into your new life the way you did. But, you are a hero in so many people's eyes. Being the wife, sister, niece, cousin and friend of Police Officer's I fear everyday. For their safety. Your job is by far one of the toughest jobs out there. I am a firm believer that God chooses people for different things in life. Some are made to save lives while others are made to face othe obstacles. You were just doing your job and that was the sad part. But, on a hero note you saved the lives of your other fellow officers. You have made our streets safer, there is no doubt about that, and I know that you are looking down on everyone saying that you were proud to protect and serve. May God Bless your family and all your friends in this time of mourning now and forever!

The loss of Officer Jose L. Somohano is a gain. A gain of perspective to the world that the brotherhood is strong and there at a moment's notice. The Holy Bible speaks of Peacemakers:

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God" (Matthew 5:9)

Jose is truly by the sides of our Lord Christ and St. Michael the patron site of Law Enforcement. Let us not forget that men and women like Jose give their lives so we can live ours. On September 11, 2001 the world lost people like Ofc. Somohano. Let this be a reminder of the life we take for granted: the locked doors we look at right before we go to bed, the car alarm we activate when we leave it alone for hours, the gun we check is secure for when we are afraid, and the 911 call for assistance we put in when we put our lives in the hands of the men and women who respond to aide us. Officer Jose Somohano breathed the same air we breathed and drank the same water we drank. He was no more human than the next man but the next man is still with us.

Being human is what keeps us united and not religion, political affiliation, race, or gender. We are human and God made us such to act in the way he deemed appropriate. He will send us messages like he did on Sept 13, 2007 but it up to us to listen and more importantly understand.

A new phrase came along and deemed appropriate for this event that touched the lives of a nation, because the nation mourned with us - Miami-Dade.

"A hero need not speak. When he leaves, the world will speak for him."

Watch over the us Jose for you have also done so. We love you not just as a man who protected us and our way of life but a brother under the eyes of humanity. God bless you and may you rest in the Kingdom of God where you rightly so belong. Heroes but come in one form and are born not made.
