Reflections for Corporal John "Scott" Gardner

Many thanks to you and your fellow officers for protecting the community. You will be sorely missed by your friends, relatives and co-workers as well as the community at large. May your family take comfort in the knowledge that you are resting well with your fellow officers and are remembered by those who have never met you in person.

Rest well, warrior, your time on earth is done. Guard the streets of heaven well.

My nephew, Sgt. Kevin Cox of the Lubbock PD, was killed in the line of duty over six years ago. I still think about him often and miss him always; as will your family, Cpl. Gardner. You and your two fellow OPD officers have given the ultimate sacrifice, one that we all hope will never come but which we live with every day. As nothing can bring you back from this terrible tragedy, nothing will ever erase your sacrifice from our hearts. I pray that God is with you and your family right now and forever. Rest easy, brother, your shift is over.

I first met Cpl Gardner in 2000, when he was called by my dad (who is retired from Odessa PD) to help our dog find her way to heaven. Now, I hope Scott has found his way to heaven and can finally rest. The funeral yesterday was hard, but now the rebuilding begins. We will truly miss you and thank you for your service in our wonderful town!! Gob bless your family.

As I see my brothers and sisters come back from Iraq and Afghanistan, all military members must remember those who are fighting on the home front. The men and women of the police forces risk as much as anyone in the military and therefor it in with honor that I salute my brother. Thank you for your service sir. Your sacrifice does not go unseen.
