Reflections for Corporal Arlie Jones
We often wonder why our brothers and sisters are taken from us so early in life. I have come to understand that God has a bigger role for them to play in our lives. They become our Guardian Angels, protecting us until it's our time to join them. My heartfelt condolences to his Family, our extended Family.

I attended the police academy with Arlie. He was an honest hardworking man. He was extremely nice and I will never forget him. He is the second officer from our academy class to die in the line of duty. I pray for Arlie, his family and the Odessa Police Department for the loss of three brave officers in one day.

My grief is so deep I can hardly begin to express my sorrow for the families. I worked with Arlie both on Patrol and in Detectives (when he still had a full head of hair). No matter what his circumstance or job assignment, Arlie was always happy and content. He loved his family, and he loved police work. One of the few people I have ever known that was totally at peace with life. Will miss you much.

DON'T GRIEVE FOR ME, FOR NOW IM FREE.
I'M FOLLOWING THE PATH GOD LAID FOR ME.
I TOOK HIS HAND WHEN I HEARD HIM CALL,
I THURNED MY BACK AND LEFT IT ALL.
I COULD NOT STAY ANOTHER DAY,
TO LAUGH, TO , LOVE, TO WORK, OR PLAY.
TASKS LEFT UNDONE MUST STAY THAT WAY.
I FOUND THAT PEACE AT THE CLOSE OF THE DAY.
IF MY PARTING HAS LEFT A VOID,
THEN FILL IT WITH REMEBERED JOY.
A FRIENDSHIP SHARED, A LAUGH, A KISS,
AH YES, THESE THINGS I TOO WILL MISS.
BE NOT BURDENED WITH TIMES OF SORROW,
I WISH YOU THE SUNSHINE OF TOMORROW.
MY LIFE'S BEEN FULL, I SAVORED MUCH,
GOOD FRIENDS, GOOD TIMES, A LOVED ONE'S TOUCH.
PERHAPS MY TIME SEEMED ALL TO BREIF,
DONT LENGTHEN IT NOW WITH UNDUE GREIF,
LIFT UP YOUR HEART AND SHARE WITH ME,
GOD WANTED ME NOW, HE SET ME FREE.

I worked with Arlie for thirteen years at the Odessa Police Department and NEVER heard a negative comment from him. When I heard what had happened, I immediately remembered the last call I went on with Arlie. It was a similar call, but the gunman took his own life. Ill never forgoet that black cowboy hat you wore off duty. Ill neverforget the time we sepnt together on that Chief's advisory commitee. Arlie was a dedicated officer and dedicated to the citizens of Odessa and the OPD.
