Ptl. Wilcher,
I never knew you, but have learned so much about you this past week. It was my honor to help with the planning of your funeral. I hope, as you looked upon us from Heaven, you were proud of what was done in your honor.
Please, rest in the peace of the Risen Lord and know you are now part of all of us.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
you’ve born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you’ve done your time in hell"
Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, thank you for your service and dedication to the law enforcement field, its men and women like you that make everyday a better plac to live.

God bless you and your family. It takes strong people to realize all that is on the line when becoming an officer or friends and family to one. The day you graduate the academy your world changes and now ours has as well because we lost another brother in blue. Please watch over the rest of us and guide us out of harms way.

It is ironic that those things in life that bring us a great feeling of joy, security and well being also bring us great sorrow. To know public service is to know sacrifice. Not only as the servant but as the family of the servant as well. May God blees and keep you and your family.

May the perpetual light of our Lord shine upon you. President Theodore Roosevelt once said, "The credit belongs to those people who are actually in the arena...who know the great enthusiasims, the great devotion to a worthy cause; who at best know the triumph of high achievement; and who at worst fail while daring greatly, so that their place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know niether victory nor defeat." May you rest in peace and bask in the victory of Gods eternal light.

You were hired onto GPD after I had already left for another department, so I never had the privilege of working with you. Regardless, its always painful when a police officer passes away doing his job, especially when the officer worked for a department from NWI, too close to home. God bless you, your family, and your loved ones, and watch over all of us in blue.

Rest in peace Officer. It does not matter how you died but how you lived. May God grant you eternal life and comfort to your family and co-workers. Today on my way to work I saw your fellow Officers escorting your body back to Gary from Chicago but I'm sure you were also watching for above with God by your side.
