Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Sergeant Christopher Reyka

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Rest in Peace Chris, we will take it from here. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I am saddened more and more each time I hear of another Police Officer be killed. The job has always been a dangerous one but lately it getting out of control. There is no longer any regard for the value of a human life.

I pray that our Lord takes care of Sergeant Reyka's family during this tragic time. I also hope and pray that He will comfort you in his loving arms. You are a "True Hero" taken from us way too soon.

I pray that the cowards that did this to you will get what these deserve. My prayer is that you rest in eternal peace and that your family is forever protected. Rest easy my freind, you've earned it!

"A Part Of America Died",
Somebody killed a policeman today,
And part of America died.
A piece of our country he swore to protect,
Will be buried with him at his side.
The suspect that shot him will stand up in court,
With counsel demanding his rights.
While a young widowed mother must work for her kids,
And spend many long lonely nights.
The beat he walked was a battle field too
just as if he had gone off to war.
Though the flag of our nation won't fly at half mast,
To his name they will add a gold star.
Yes, somebody killed a policeman today,
In your town or mine,
While we slept in comfort behind locked doors,
A cop put his life on the line.
Now his ghost walks a beat on a dark city street,
And stands at each new rookies' side.
He answered the call,of himself and gave his all,
And a part of America died.
What a tragedy.........again we lose an officer because someone has no value for life. It is so sad to come to this memorial hoping another officer is not listed. So many are gunned down for no reason. We hope this memorial will be a comfort to the loved ones, family and all who knew Sgt Reyka. Our prayers are with you constantly through all time. We hope you can feel the arms of Jesus surrounding you and giving you comfort through these next few hours days which will be the darkest.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

With a heavy heart, I would like to offer my sincere condolences. I am proud to say I had known Sgt. Reyka. As a high school student, several years ago, I went to school with his children and am proud to have known his family. It pains me to hear this news, and I can only hope that Christopher's family will find comfort in the memory of their brave fallen hero. So for the family, please know that Christopher's memory will never be forgotten, and that his sacrifice will always be remembered. Our prayers will be with you always.

To Christopher, you will be missed. Rest well brother, you have served your time well. I know you have finally found peace on the streets of heaven.

Sgt. Reyka,

You are in my heart, and your family in my prayers. I only met you a few times, passing by in the hallway at D11, but you always had a smile on your face!!

Seeing the response on scene this morning from surrounding agencies was AMAZING! Know that we will catch who is responsible for this.

You will be sorely missed! We love you! We got in from here! RIP my Brother in Blue!
