Reflections for Officer Douglas Scott Russell
It's always hard to hear of a fellow brother or sister losing their life doing the job that they love and that only special individuals are able to perform. My heart goes out to you and your family. May you rest in peace.

I just wanted to tell the family, friends and CHP Officers how terribly sorry I am for your loss. I wished I could say I don't know how you feel but I do. Sacramento Sheriff Deputy Mitchell who was killed 10-27-06 was my brother in law. I hope and pray for all of you.
Officer Russell, thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have done for our State and community. May God watch over your family and friends as they go through this terrible time. You were appreciated by many.
Rest in Peace Officer Russell.

Another day another tear shed as we loose another brother officer. One whom we may never have know but one who stood in the ranks amongst us. He was one of us a brother officer who paid the ultimate price.
May God bless his family and our brothers and sisters of the

When God Made Peace Officers
Unknown Author
When the Lord was creating peace officers, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one"
And the Lord said, "Have you read the spec on this order?" A peace officer has to be able to run five miles through alleys in the dark, scale walls, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his uniform."
He has to be able to sit in an undercover car all day on a stakeout, cover a homicide scene that night, canvass the neighborhood for witnesses and testify in court the next day."
He has to be in top physical condition at all times, running on black coffee and half-eaten meals. And he has to have six pairs of hands."
The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands...no way."
"It's not the hands that are causing me problems." said the Lord, "It's the three pairs of eyes an officer has to have."
"That's on the standard model?" asked the angel.
The Lord nodded. "One pair that sees through the bulge in a pocket before he asks, 'May I see what's in there sir?' (When he already knows and wishes he'd taken that accounting job.) Another pair here in the side of the head for his partner's safety. And another pair of eyes here in the front that can look reassuringly at a bleeding victim and say. 'You'll be all right ma'am.' When he knows it isn't so."
"Lord," said the angel, touching his sleeve, "rest and work on this tomorrow."
"I can't" said the Lord, "I already have a model that can talk a 250 pound drunk into a patrol car without incident, and feed a family of five on a civil service pay check."
The angel circled the model of the peace officer very slowly. "Can it think?" she asked.
"You bet." said the Lord. "It can tell you the elements of a hundred crime scenes; recite Miranda warnings in his sleep; detain, investigate, search, and arrest a gang member on the street in less time than it takes five learned judges to debate the legality of the stop...and still keeps its sense of humor."
"This officer also has phenomenal personal control. He can deal with crime scenes painted in hell; coax a confession from a child abuser; comfort a murder victim's family; and then read in the daily paper how law enforcement isn't sensitive to the rights of criminal suspects."
Finally, the angel bent over and ran her fingers across the cheek of the peace officer. "There's a leak." She pronounced. "I told you that you are trying to put to much in this model."
"That's not a leak," said the Lord, "it's a tear."
"What's the tear for?" asked the angel.
"It's for bottled-up emotions; for fallen comrades; for commitment to that funny piece of metal called his badge; for justice."
"You're a genius." said the angel.
The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there." he said.
What a tragedy to lose another police officer who was doing what he wanted, and enjoyed doing. He left his wife that morning hoping that he would be home as usual in the evening. It wasn't meant to be, God had other plans for Officer Russell. We will pray for his wife, family, friends and all who knew him. These next few hours, and days will be the darkest, but hopefully all can reflect on the wonderful memories Officer Russell has left behind.
GOD BLESS YOU ALL

"The Final Inspection"
The policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders
and said, "No Lord. I guess I ain't.
Because those who carry badges,
can't always be a saint."
"I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough...
and sometimes I've been violent
because the streets are awful tough."
"But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep...
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep."
"And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I wept unmanly tears."
"I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear."
"If you've a place for me here, Lord,
it needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But, if you don't...I'll understand."
There was silence all around the throne,
where saints had often trod,
as the policeman waited quietly
for the judgement of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heaven's streets.
You've done your time in hell."
Officer Russell,
My heart goes out to you, your family, and your Brothers in Blue. May God watch over your loved ones in this difficult time. The Lord works in mysterious ways, and we may not know the reason he needed you so desperately yesterday. He calls upon his best officers to patrol the streets of Heaven. We will be there in time to protect God's Paradise with you, but not yet brother, not yet.
Rest in Peace my brother, We'll take it from here.

Rest in Peace my brother may god bless you, To The family always remember the words of our Lord and master Jesus Christ "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. "John 14:1-4" May the Eternal God Bless and Keep you in this hour of need.
