Reflections for Police Officer George Valentino Cortez, Jr.

I was so sorry to hear of the tragic circumstances of Officer Cortez Jr. May this time of heartbreak bring the community and family and friends together to honor his sacrifice to his community and country.

The Michigan Department of Corrections Honor Guard wishes the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Cortez comfort during this difficult time. Law enforcement is a dangerous professional and we all know the risks every time we step out the door to go to work. Officer Coterz made the ultimate sacrifice trying to keep the people of Pheonix safe. We have a former Michigan Honor Guard member working as a police officer in the Pheonix area so the news hit close to home for us. Our sympathy goes out to his family.

Officer Cortez - thank you for your service. How terrible that the low lifes of this society chose to kill you versus being held responsible for their own actions! It is my sincere hope that neither one of them ever see the light of day again.

Officer Cortez, watch over your family giving them the love, support and guidance they will need as they begin this long, dark journey without you.

Watch over your brothers and sisters in uniform, as well.

Neither you, nor your sacrifice, will ever be forgotten.

Rest in peace!

I worked for years in a Tucson emergency department as a nurse and out in the field with the EMS. May God bless all the officers fighting the "good fight" as I have read.

May God continue to bless Officer Cortez as now he is an officer of God with wings.

May God bless his precious wife and beautiful babies. What a loss for them. I pray that his babies will be able to keep at least one memory of their daddy.

Lastly, may God bless and hold his family, both extended and fellow-officers who will mourn Officer Cortez for years to come.

Thank you Officer Cortez for giving your life to protect not others!
