I retired from Phoenix P.D. in 2001 so I did not have the pleasure of meeting or working with Ofc. Cortez. My wife Joyce and I pray for his soul. We also pray for his family. The tragedy of his death will be re-lived by them for the rest of their lives...each time his wife thinks of him, each time his children need trusted, fatherly advice. Ofc. Cortez' death is as profoundly sad as it is senseless. May he rest in peace. May his family have the strength to move on without him.

God Speed, Officer Cortez, to your next assignment watching over us from Heavenly walls.
My wife and I send our heartfelt condolences and our prayers to the family of a young officer who stood in Harm's way to protect us.
To the officers of the Phoenix Police Department, as always you have my utmost respect and appreciation for who you are and what you do. Officer Cortez stood proudly among you, so now you must stand proudly when you hear the name of your fallen brother, and know that those who have preceded you and those who will follow, share your pain, your anger, and your admiration for Officer Cortez.
