Reflections for Detective Russel Timoshenko

It has been my goal to become a police officer. I really don't know what turned my focus to that, as I had been interested in the medical field before, but I do know one thing: it is because of people like YOU who give the ultimate sacrifice to keep safe those you don't know that I am determined to become an Officer of the Law. Thank you, and GOD bless your family.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to the surviving family of Officer Timoshenko. I had just graduated from the academy as the January 2007 class and had begun working in Midtown South when I had heard the 10-13 over the air. I turned to my partner and gave a grave look, saying this isn't good. I had prayed for Officer Timoshenko to recover, but he tragically passed. We are all sadden by this loss. I had attended the funeral in Brooklyn and was definitely impressed by the solidarity the NYPD had shown by its presence to express our condolences for a fallen brother. Although I did not know Officer Timoshenko, I will remember him, and I hope for everyone to be safe out there.

You went to school with my daughter, you even went to the prom together. You were an adorable young man. I cannot stop thinking about you and your poor parents. I cry as though you were family. My daughter told me you were one of the nicest persons that she has ever met. All I keep saying is for what, for $25,000. How dare they. I look at Mrs. Timoshenko and my heart goes out to her and her husband. An only child. No one should bear the grief they are bearing. You bring your family here for a better life, and this is what happens. It is a shame. I look at his face and want to cry. To the parents, you did a marvelous job with Russel. Although nothing will bring him back, he was a model son. I pray for you because this is going to be the hardest thing you will ever go through. Just know this, you were able to have your son for 23 years. Some people never have the joy that you experienced. This is so unfair. Russel was a great person and this should not have happened to him. I pray for his family.

Det. Timoshenko,
For the past few months I have been trying to become a police officer and just recently took the NYPD exam. While my friends a family look at your death as a sign and plea with me to change my mind, I am instead inspired as well as honored to follow in your steps. I thank you for your dedication and service not only to your city but your country as well. Rest in peace Detective, and as other officers have said, we'll take it from here.

Russel...

You were a very loved person. Although we never met, we are very much alike. You gave up your youthful life to protect others. You exclaimed the fact that life is very precious and one must do good and noble actions since one never knows when he/she may go. Thank you...

I pray for your family and those who held you dear to them. When I was at your burial service I saw your family in a state of grief that no family should ever feel. May your life be an example to all on how we must all take care of one another and do our best to preserve life as best we can. Thank you for being a subtle teacher and a brother- Though you were an only child, you were and always will be my brother - MY BROTHER IN BLUE - Thank you for your sacrifice and your love for humanity. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
So long Brother...I'll see you when I go!

St. Michael, Heaven's glorious Commissioner of Police, who once so neatly and successfully cleared God's premises of all undesirables, look with a kindly and professional eye on your earthly force. Give us cool heads, stout hearts, hard punches, an uncanny flair for investigation, and wise judgement. Make us the terror of burglars, the friend of children and law-abiding citizens, kind to strangers, polite to bores, strict with law-breakers, and impervious to temptations. You know, St. Michael, from your own experiences with the devil, that the policeman's lot on Earth is not always a happy one; but your sense of duty that so pleased God, your hard knocks that so surprised the devil, and your angelic self-control give us inspiration. And when we lay down our night sticks, enroll us in your Heavenly Force, where we will be as proud to guard the throne of God, as we have been to guard the city of men. Amen.
