My condolences to the Strohsal family, relatives, community and Law Enforcement Family. May God be with you and shine his everlasting light upon you as you deal with this tragedy. I wish I had the opportunity to meet Sgt. Strohsal. Although his 32 years of service and commitment speaks for itself, I can see from his picture that he exemplified all the characteristics of a good man, son, father, husband and leader. Sgt. Strohsal,
My husband, Lake County Deputy Wayne Koester, was killed on February 9, 2005. As God's eyes fell upon Wayne, they to, have fallen upon you, for He has chosen another beautiful, strong and brave soul to guard his kingdom. As Wayne continues to guide us, may you keep a gentle hand on your family and give them the strength they need to get through the tough road ahead.
Mrs. Strohsal and family,
I am so very sorry for the loss of your husband and father. I too have walked the path that has been chosen for you. As you are experiencing it now and in the future, it is sometimes a rough path. At times it will seem like it is full of many hills to climb and rocks to stumble upon. But, you can make it. Your friends, extended family in law enforcement and your community will always be there to lend a hand when that hill gets a little too steep. I had a hard time accepting help or a shoulder from others, especially in the beginning. Then one day it dawned on me. They truly want to help, or shall I say they NEED to help. Maybe it’s something they need to do for their fallen brother’s family, because after all, you are their family too. We all are, the second our spouses put on that badge. We become a part of the biggest family in the world. When one of us falls, we all feel it.
I was given two pieces of advice once: Take everything one step at a time. One step became two, and two became four. The other is to BREATHE! That's the only advice I can give to you is to take it one step at a time and breathe. I wish I could find a way to cure grief or the pain that comes with losing a husband.
This site has become a comfort to me as well. It is not meant to cause painful memories but to honor our husbands for their bravery. When I read the thoughts everyone leaves, I know he was loved and respected by everyone he had met. It also lets others know what a wonderful law enforcement officer, husband and friend he was. I know your husband shares the same qualities as mine. I know that if given another chance, they would do the same job again and again. A job the likes so few are brave enough or have the courage enough to do. They are a special breed of men and there are very few like them. I feel honored to have shared a part of my husband’s life, a life of a true hero in every sense of the word.
Always remember how much he loves you. Don't be afraid to call on your family and friends when you just don't fell like getting out of bed. That is where your support comes from. You and the children will find your strength in each other and in the love you all shared together. Always remember, he is in your heart whenever you need to talk to him.
I'M THERE INSIDE YOUR HEART
Right now I'm in a different place,
And though we seem apart,
I'm closer than I ever was...
I'm there inside your heart.
I'm with you when you greet each day
And while the sun shines bright,
I'm there to share the sunsets, too...
I'm with you every night.
I'm with you when the times are good
To share a laugh or two,
And if a tear should start to fall...
I'll still be there for you.
And when that day arrives
That we no longer are apart,
I'll smile and hold you close to me...
Forever in my heart.

Policeman's 23rd Psalm
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind
He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.
When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.
He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.
