Koz,
My sympathy and prayers go out to those who
had the privilege of being close to you. You
were such a good guy and a great officer. I will
always remember you for your easy smile and sense of
humor. Your loss leaves a painful hole in the heart of
the GRPD and its citizens. You will be missed.
Rest in peace

As the daughter of a 39 year veteran of the police force, the news your family received during the middle of the night last weekend was the same news that I feared my entire life. Although I know my dad is doing a job he loves, I am well aware of the danger he walks into every time he puts that uniform on...and I could not be prouder! I heard the breaking news report during the night Saturday when I turned on the TV because I was finding it difficult to sleep. As I heard that a GRPD officer had been shot, that was all the news that was available at the time. I immediately knew that God had woken me up, urging me to begin praying. I fell back to sleep with concern in my heart and constant prayer on my lips. I was heartbroken to awaken Sunday morning to the news that Officer Kozminski had not survived this brutal ambush...and my prayers continued in earnest for his family and friends. There are no words appropriate to express my sympathy. May you find comfort in knowing that your beloved officer is truly a hero in every sense of the word. I continue to pray that God will surround you with His peace and comfort.

"Blessed are those who mourn...for they shall be comforted."

Thank you for your service to make others safe. It takes a special person to do what you did. I pray for your young daughter - that she will always know what a hero you are. I pray for your parents and siblings and for your family at Grand Rapids Police Dept - especially those who responded to your aide and dispatchers working that night. I hope your memory lives on forever. Rest in peace Officer Kozminski.

Koz,
We will miss your smiling face and sense of humor. I am honored to have known you, thank you for your ultimate sacrifice. I will forever feel empty getting dressed for work when I see your locker. Rest in peace my brother, we will carry on the job you started. Watch over us from above, for someday, we will see each other again.
Your brother in blue,

Your life was full and had so much meaning,
you never dwelled on the chance of leaving.
Facing each day with a possible threat,
and not one moment lived with a regret.

So many people see but don't understand,
that we protect and serve in a not so perfect land.
There wasn't time for you to say good-bye,
but I can hear you clearly saying -- 'Please don't cry'.

Your life has been rich and sweet,
you'll be missed by your brothers and sisters on the street.
You don't have to face another hassle,
now you can go live in your own little castle.

Getting your wings up in the sky,
where one day you'll teach us all to fly.
