Koz,
I cannot believe you're gone. I was a half mile away on a call that fateful night. I heard the shots but I thought they were fireworks. I heard the sirens of the cruiser bringing you to the hospital just as I was leaving to go on another call. I wish I could have done something more... we all do.
We know that you are walking with the Lord now. You are watching out for us and securing our scenes from above. You truly are a hero and your wonderful daughter will grow up knowing that her daddy was one of the good guys. You are gone but you will never be forgotten.
Rest in Peace, Bobby.

Seven years ago I met a young man, smart, professional, dedicated, and graced with a great smile and sense of humor. He took to his job with a passion and competence that others who knew him respected and emulated. He was a great example not only of a police officer, but of a friend, brother, and father. Many citizens were fortunate enough in times of trouble to have Koz answer their calls and ease their troubles. Thank you Koz for the chance to know you, even for far too short a time.
To Koz's family, thank you for raising such a fine young man and supporting him in his career. My prayers are with you, now and forever. May memories of better times accompany you and help you through this hell on earth.
To Koz's brothers and sisters in blue, my thoughts and prayers are always with you also. Koz was such an intricate part of the team that the pain will be long-lasting, but the example he set will outlast all. He's always with you, with all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Koz, you did a great job. Enjoy a long 10-7.

First and foremost- To all those who survive Officer Kozminiski and to his brothers and sisters at the GRPD who will continue to honor his memory, I am truly sorry for the pain, anger and sorrow you are feeling. For the pain you will feel over the next few days, weeks, months and even years. For everytime you think of this fallen hero - I am so sorry for the pain you have yet to experience.
We here in Dearborn Heights lost one of our own - Corporal Jason Makowski - on May 25, 2006. The circumstances surrounding Jason's death were very similay to those surrounding Robert's death. And so I'm telling you this from experience - the pain will never ease and there will continue to be a void in your hearts. I console myself knowing that Jason is in a better place than we are and that he is no longer suffering....And now, for whatever reason God has planned Robert has joined Jason to patrol the golden gates of heaven.
Robert is a true hero and for that is how he will be remembered. He sacrificed himself to save others and that says a lot about his character, his morals and his dedication to the job. Everyone should be very proud of this Officer.
To you Officer Kozminiski - a tost in your honor, after all the tears have been shed and the salutes have been dropped, your fellow officers will raise a glass in your name. And though it will be years before the pain starts to be replaced with the fond memories they have of their time with you - they will continue on and honor your memory as you would do for any one else. May you rest in peace. You're with Corporal Jason Makowski and on Gods rollcall now...Rest Easy....Gods Speed.....You will be missed!

Final Inspection
The Policeman stood and faced his God,
which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?
The Policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No Lord I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep.
Though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've cried unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the peoplehere.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
but if you don't I'll understand.
There was silence all around the Throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the Policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, Policeman,
you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you've done your time in Hell."
