I read odmp all the time because I want to pay tribute to the fallen. Never have I read more reflections from local citizens, especially those with whom Officer Kozminski had contact while working. That says more about Bobby Kozminski than any words can. As a former Michigan Police Officer, I salute you Officer Kozminski, on a job well done. Those of us who are left behind will never forget you. To his family, I can only imagine how proud of him you are and how much he will be missed. God bless you.

Sometimes, through the media, we hear of unpleasant things the police supposedly do to those arrested, etc. It is refreshing and beautiful to see the GRPD force draw close during this difficult time, and support one another, as well as Office Kozminski's family and friends. I have gained a new respect for the police force, both GR, Grandville, as well as other cities. I, simply a citizen, salute Office Kozminski, his family, daughter, friends, and the Grand Rapids Police Department. I will keep all of you in my prayers and thoughts. It never hurts that everytime someone hears a siren, to whisper a prayer. Thank you Officer Kozminski, and your GRPD band of brothers, for protecting the streets of Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Our Greatest Fear

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

The law enforcement family has lost a brother, and we will never understand the true loss your family and close friends have been stricken with. My heart breaks with sorrow for all that have been touched by you, and those who will never be able to shake your hand or hug the one they love.. I will continue to pray for all that are grieving your loss.

Albert Einstein said that "Every day I remind myself that my inner and outer life are based on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the same measure as I have received and am still receiving."

Rest In Peace Officer Kozminski.

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God laid for me,
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found that place at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss.
Ah yes, these things, I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow.
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much.
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief;
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now. He set me free.

Bobby, it seems like yesterday that I was at your sister Amy's wedding talking to you about joining the ranks of the GRPD. I sat there thinking I hope this quiet young man is making the right career choice. You did. Even though we worked opposite shifts I never hear anything but good things about how you were doing on the street. It was a honor to know you and to work on the same dept. with you. Rest easy my brother, we now have the watch.

Officer Kozminski--rest, my friend. You were a hero for the way you lived, and I'm sorry I wasn't fortunate enough to meet you and tell you that.

Friends, family, and loved ones--I will make room for you in my heart. Your grief is not borne alone. You served as well, silently and with grace. The ones of us that walk the same road know your journey, and we still walk with you.

GRPD family--your ranks are not diminished. Your brother is with you, as God is with you, and your extended law enforcement family.

Peace be with you. May He bring you all comfort.
