Wes,

It is so hard to hear news of a brother who has fallen in the line of duty. It was my honor to have served with you and I will always remember you. I will pray for your wife and daughters. You are a hero and someday when your daughters read this I want them to know that their dad was someone they can be very proud of. Thank you for your service and God Bless your family.

ITS SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER FAR AWAY...

It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.

Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.

They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.

Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.

So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

WE LOST ONE OF OUR OWN OFFICERS LESS THAN A YEAR AGO WHEN A DRUNK DRIVER STRUCK HIS MOTORCYCLE. REST IN PEACE BROTHER, GOD HAS CALLED YOU HOME. MAY HE BLESS YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR DEPARTMENT DURING THIS DIFFICULT TIME.

WEARERS OF THE WINGS

For many long years you gave your best
Envied by some, admired by the rest,
Giving your all, yourself, your time
To make us the best, your mountain to climb.

Confidence you had, plus spirit and drive
You gave it to others, and kept it alive,
To young men just starting, one after another
You'd reach out your hand, and act as big brother,

Some men and women of our department, who serve at our side
Once lined the streets, and watched as you'd ride,
Sitting straight on your motor, as you led a parade
Never will you know, the impressions you made.

We remember the times, on calls not "serene"
The comfort we felt when you came on the scene,
Some memories are dim, but joy is derived
At times in the past, when your motor arrived.

You impressed by appearance, not plot, nor plan
A full time policeman, one hell of a man,
You showed us pride, intetgrity, and guts
A shining example , in breeches and putts.

The debt that is owed by the men in our ranks
Was often repaid, with a handshake and "thanks",
The friendship we share, surpassing all others
We , men and women of the badge, together as brothers and sisters.

It's hard to find words to say all the things
To cover the feelings on what memory brings,
Somewhere you know, how much you are missed
By those many hundreds that make up the list.

We feel you were taken, to fill God's Master Plan
To shape up His Heaven, as only you can,
You were loved and respected, from boss to recruit
So look down on us now, and take our salute.

Dedicated to all " Wearers of the Wings", The MotorMen

I thought this was a beautiful poem.

Godspeed my brother,

I knew your voice and callsign by heart, and I'm sure we had spoken hundreds of times over the years on the phone or radio. You were one of the officers I've always remembered as knowledgable, kind, professional, and appreciative of dispatch. I worked with your wife for many years when she was in dispatch as one of the best police dispatchers and NCIC operators we had, so even though I only met you a few times I got to hear so much about what a good person you were from your wife. My heart goes out to Ashlee, the girls, and extended family. They have lost a great man. And our agency and city has lost an excellent cop.

Wes,

I found out about your accident while I was on vacation. At first, I was in denial and could not believe what had happened. It wasn't until my wife was driving me back into Dallas today that it started to hit me. I realized that I had lost a brother officer. I did not know you that well, but when a fellow officer dies in the line of duty, it doesn't matter. A part of you dies too. The fact is, is that you were a fellow brother in blue and that you died doing what you love to do everyday. We never expect something like this to happen. When it does, it helps us realize that this could have happened to anyone of us. While I write this email, I dedicate this (drink) to my fellow brother in blue. My family and I will pray for his family, especially his wife and twin girls. May they find peace with God's help.

P.S. Wes, give my regards to Larry Cobb and the many other officers I have seen die in the line of duty. We will all be together one day.

Peace be with you,

Rest in Peace, my brother. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Policeman's 23rd Psalm

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.

He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.

When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.

He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

Where do I start, you are the level headed one that I relied on to get things done, one I could deer hunt with and not worry about getting shot (at least by you that is), one who I could count on to call me at least once daily just to check in. The past 5 years that I have known you have grown to be a stronger bond between us in several ways, we have several things in common and I think that makes us closer. Your time on earth was short but God has a plan and needs you to help fulfill that plan. My heart goes out to you, Ashlee and the girls. Please watch over all of us while you are on yoru new journey, there will be a time when we will once again meet in that special place above. God Bless You until we meet again!! RC #102

Dayle Weston "Wes" Hardy is a Cop's Cop. He knows his policies and proceedures as good as anyone. If you needed a question answered about traffic law, there was one place to go, Wes Hardy. He is a man that takes the job seriously, and knows the threats of being a cop. Even knowing the dangers and the darkness of putting your life on the line on a dailey basis, he never backed down.

On July 7, 2007 at 11:00am God needed help with something big. I know this because he called one of the best cops I know for help. And Wes, being the good cop that he is, went running, lights and siren. He never backed down, or flinched, even though he knew nothing of the call that God had for him. All I know is that with a few good cops like Wes, God could march into hell and put the fires out.
