Reflections for Police Officer Dayle Weston "Wes" Hardy

Wes loved being a Motorcop. I am proud to have known Wes as a fellow Motor Officer and friend. The streets of Plano were a safer place because of Wes Hardy, and his presence will be missed. Thank You God for men like this. May peace and comfort be with the Hardy family during this difficult time.

I did not know you personally Officer Hardy but you have touched our lives. The sound of sirens and beat of helicopter rotors broke the stillness Saturday morning near our home and gave us cause to wonder. Our prayers were then, and still are for you, your family, your fellow officers and coworkers at the Plano Police Department. You helped make our community a home, you protected us and watched over our children. You will be forever missed.

I was one of the first cars to pull up to Officer Hardy's accident scene. I was praying from the second I realized what had happened. I have so much respect for the officers on the scene. I know you are all his family and very close. This is such a tragic loss. Thank you for putting your safety on the line for us. Officer Hardy made this world a better place. God Bless You Officer Hardy. I for one will remember.....always. Marcia

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
you’ve born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you’ve done your time in hell"

Clinton, LA Police Dept

I remember when you first started your law enforcement career, you grew from a spunky kid to a good man. God has blessed you with a wonderful life with a job you loved and a strong beautiful woman to back you up at home. Now you should know that you will be missed terribly at home but you will be one of those angels guarding the gate when the rest of us come to see you again. Your wife and duaghters will be safe with the love and strength of your family, your law enforcement family, and friends. Rest in peace and know you will be missed by all of those who knew you and loved you.

I have not seen Wes in over 10 years since joining the military, but his family and friends who are mourning the loss are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that each day you can remember all the wonderful things about Wes just like I have done today knowing that he is no longer with us. I look forward to seeing him again someday where we can laugh again together.

"In the simple performance of duty,
he pinned on a badge,
checked his gear with a practiced eye,
and kissed his loved ones good-bye.
In the simple performance of duty,
he reported for work,
joked with his buddies at roll call,
and made his last trip down the squad room hall.
In the simple performance of duty,
he answered the call
to help the helpless, to find the lost,
no matter the danger or how great the cost.
In the simple performance of duty,
he lay down his life,
for those in peril he tried to save,
our brave friend went to his grave.
In the simple performance of duty,
we honor his deed,
as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket,
long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.
Never judge or regret, what he did, In the simple performance of duty."

Wes and I were in High School together and it seems like just the other day that we were playing football. He and his family are the very best of people. My prayers go out to his wife and children as well as his sister and parents. He will be greatly missed by his family and his department. Godspeed Wes.

ITS SOUNDS LIKE THUNDER FAR AWAY...

It sounds like thunder far away, but the skies are blue and bright...
And soon they crest the hill nearby, and ride into our sight.
They shake the ground with powerful sound, and they make some hearts beat fast...
They look so proud and noble, like Knights come from the past.

Side by side, they always ride, and seem to move as one...
From early in the morning light, to the setting of the sun.
And children point and wave to them, from cars that pass them by...
And young ones ask their parents, why the men have mirrors for eyes.

They ride the roads, and fight for good, and defend small ones like you...
They ask to ride, and do with pride, and sometimes they are few.
Like men of steel, on Silver Wings, they sparkle in the light...
then with a roar and rumble, they ride out of our sight.

Sometimes when one has fallen, never to ride again...
You can hear the others calling, like thunder on the wind.
Side by side, they slowly ride, and their thunder is a mournful sound...
And the mirrors hide their eyes from us, when teardrops fall to ground.

So if you see one riding, and you look into his face...
You see your reflection in his eyes, you know that you are safe.
For motormen are a special breed, they love to ride the wind...
And when you hear the thunder boom, the fallen ones ride again.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Officer Hardy, as well as the Plano Police Department as they have lost a great man. As the others that have preceded him while being lost in the line of duty, he is now and will forever be a hero. Thank you to the family of Officer Hardy for the sacrafices you have and will continue to make. May your girls grow up to realize how much of a hero their father truly is.

You will always be remembered by everyone you worked with as a the hero you were. When I worked for Plano Dispatch, you always told me to follow my dreams and never look back. I always knew it the time would come when the I would hear of the first fallen officer when I joined patrol, I just never imagined it would be my friend. Your wife and daughters will be well taken care of... You go now and rest in peace.
