Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris
My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Norris' fiancee', family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

Josh, I miss you!!
You always had to save other people didn't you?! Well the night you passed on you saved three others that were inside of that house, I want you to know. You went out like a soldier, securing the safety of three lives.....damn you to always be the hero!!
RIP young soldier!

Dear Deputy Norris, even though we never knew each other, you were a brother in blue, which goes far beyond what words can ever explain. You responded to a call of someone in need and paid the ultimate price. I know it is not easy for your family and friends to comprehend, but your path was known by ONE; now you have your wings and can fly free to help protect and watch over the men and women in blue, and your family and friends. I will pray for your family and for God to grant them peace and comfort because I know they have heavy hearts. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you........

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
you’ve born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you’ve done your time in hell"

And the doors to Heaven opened up and the Lord said " welcome my son in blue, you gave your life to save another, I am so proud of you." You will never walk alone as long as I sit on this golden throne. You are among many fallen Heroes here, all of whom I hold so dear. Your life was cut way to short, but I had a plan for you I am happy to report, you will see your friends and family in time to come, I know that is a comfort to some, while they must wait on earth for a while, when they think of You they all will smile and say "we'll meet again someday".
Rest in peace my good friend. Your work here is done.

A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER
Lord I ask for courage
Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears...
Courage to take me
Where others will not go...
I ask for strength
Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...
I ask for dedication
Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...
Give me Lord, concern
For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...
And please Lord
Through it all
Be at my side...
It is a shame your life and career had to be cut so short, and it's hurts my heart to see a fellow brother go down. Even though I only meet you once or twice it feels as though I have lost a good friend. my prayers go out to your fiance and family. Rest In Peace my brother.
