Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris

As a former Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Deputy and member of the OLD Street Crimes Unit, I was sad when I heard of a fellow warrior falling in battle. I heard good things about you brother in blue from your comrads. I wish I could have met you and one day I will. Until then, you will be missed. Rest in peace.

Josh, its been a week now since we laid you to rest. I did not know you like many others did. We only saw each other in passing maybe once or twice. I never had a chance to speak to you or even know your name. I can not begin to imagine what your loved ones are going through. You were taken from us way too soon by the act of a coward. The funny thing is that, I feel like I have gotten to know you from all of the kind words left here by your friends and family. I am close to a few of your friends as well and just hearing some of their stories and thoughts about you, tell me all I need to know about you. It tells me you were a class act. You were better than most. You loved what you did. I am sorry that I never had a chance to get to know you in life. My heart is heavy because you are gone. I feel like I loss a brother and a friend. I can't understand why someone like you was taken from us in this way. But you can rest easy now, knowing that you died a Hero, and that we, your brothers in blue will go on fighting the good fight. God Bless you Josh, and God Bless your family, friends, and all of your brothers and sisters who wear the badge of courage.

Our community of Grand Rapids, MI buried an officer yesterday July 13, 2007, GRPD Officer Robert Kozminski was ambushed and murdered while on a domestic call the morning of July 8th. I was reading some of the tributes on his site and read one by Deputy Latour/JPSO relating that his future son-in-law was also killed in a domestic situation on July 5th. That date was my youngest son's birthday (34th), I am so very sorry that your dear love one, Deputy Josh Norris, paid the supreme sacrifice of his job dying on that day. May he rest in peace and may God Bless the family, his special love one, friends, co-workers and Duputies of Jefferson Parish.
All that have to be in harm's way are in my thoughts and prayers.

WE LAID YOU TO REST WITH THE HONORS RESERVED FOR A TRUE AMERICAN HERO. I HAVE TO THINK THAT YOU WOULD HAVE SAT BACK GAVE ONE OF YOUR CLASSIC SMILES AND SAID "WOW", KNOWING THAT EVERYTHING WAS FOR YOU. THE HARDEST PART WAS SAYING GOODBYE BUT I LIKE TO THINK OF IT AS SEE YOU LATER. THE HEALING PROCESS HAS BEGUN FOR US, THE FLAGS ARE BACK FLYING AT FULL MAST AND OUR JOB MUST GO ON. HOWEVER THE VOID CAN NOT EVER BE FILLED AND A MOURNING BAND WILL ALWAYS COVER OUR HEARTS AND SOULS. YOU WERE ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP AND GIVE WHAT EVER IT TOOK TO ENSURE THAT THE JOB WAS DONE. SO MY MESSAGE TO YOU, A COP THAT I WILL NEVER FORGET, IS THIS...REST EASY JOSH, WE GOT IT FROM HERE.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I pray for your grief to be eased. Families and friends (and in this case, fiancee) serve, too. When my husband's department lost one of our own 9 months ago, I didn't know if the pain would ever stop. It didn't entirely, but it is greatly eased by the memories. I hope there are people around you who will talk about those memories with you. As a distant member of the law enforcement family, I want to extend my heart to you in peace and comfort.

Deputy Norris, you are gone from this earth, sorely missed, but not forgotten. We will never forget. Thank you, and Godspeed.

We didn't know you, but we feel the loss
The ultimate price, you paid the cost
Once again our blue line is broken
Words of condolence have been spoken

We feel the disturbance in the line
Praying it's for the last time
That an Officers life is taken away
Dear God, no more, please not today

Mothers and Fathers feeling their grief
All of us questioning our own belief

No more families torn apart in pain
No more Officers should die in vain
For a public that seems to quick to forget
You did your job, without regret

Brothers and Sisters, we make a stand
To be a family hand in hand

May you rest in peace Deputy Norris
