Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris

Dear Josh,
Tonight I viewed your story on Rookies. I was unaware until the end of the show, how tragic it was. My deepest sympathy goes out to your fiance, family, friends and co-workers. You seemed to have a lot of promise, and i'm greatly saddened by how your life ended. To a fellow brother in blue, God Bless you Josh, now you patrol on the streets of Heaven for the Lord.

Josh

I just watched the show Rookies and just wanted to say thank you for making the ultimate sacrifice and also just wanted to let all your family know how very sorry I am for their loss. I'm sure my grandpa met you at the gates so when you see him again tell him hello.

To the colleagues, family and friends of Deputy Norris I offer my condolances . I viewed the story of this young on a recent television episode ,which left shocked at the death of this young officer. It is never easy when someone so young is taken so early in life , especially when they are just beginning their life such as Deputy Norris was with the so recent engagement . Deputy Norris RIP and you will not be forgotten.

Josh-
Just watched the show "rookies" on A&E tonight. Wow what a show. Its just amazing how you are like so many of us that needed the self confidence to make it in this job, and that other officers care enough to keep helping you out and trying. The shows have reminded me more and more and more about the roll of officer safety. May God Bless you and your family and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Rest in Peace

Deputy Norris,

I was watching you tonight on "Rookies". Saw you do the job and I was thinking, "Well done.", you got your first unit, I was thinking, "There you go, your first step on your own.", I saw the print on the screen saying you got engaged and I thought, "Perfect. You're on your way.", then came the print about the call and I said, "No, no, no. No way." But when they showed your FTO, I knew.

You were a shining light and you were taken from the world way too soon. You are a member of our very large family, a true brotherhood and we will NEVER forget you.

Rest easy bro, we've got it from here.

To DS Norris' fiance, family, the JPSO, and friends - all our prayers and best wishes.

Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God

I found this poem some time ago. I hope it helps.

Author believed to be
David Romano

When tomorrow starts without me,
And I'm not there to see,
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
all filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today,
While thinking of the many things,
We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,
As much as I love you,
and each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too.

But when tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand,
and said my place was ready,
In heaven far above,
And that I'd have to leave behind
All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,
A tear fell from my eye
For all my life, I'd always thought,
I didn't want to die.

I had so much to live for,
So much left yet to do,
It seemed almost impossible,
That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays
The good ones and the bad,
I thought of all the love we shared,
and all the fun we had

If I could re-live yesterday
Just even for a while,
I'd say good-bye and kiss you
And maybe see you smile.

But then I fully realized,
That this could never be,
For emptiness and memories,
would take the place of me.

And when I thought of worldly things,
I might miss come tomorrow,
I thought of you, and when I did,
My heart was filled with sorrow.

But when I walked through heaven's gates,
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me,
From His great golden throne.

He said, "This is eternity,
And all I've promised you."
Today your life on earth is past,
But here life starts anew

I promise no tomorrow,
But today will always last,
And since each day's the same way
There's no longing for the past.

You have been so faithful,
So trusting and so true.
Though there were times
You did some things
You knew you shouldn't do.

But you have been forgiven
And now at last you're free.
So won't you come and take my hand
And share my life with me?

So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here, in your heart.

Deputy Norris,
I just watched your story on "Rookies" and during the whole episode I kept putting myself in your shoes. I recently got done with training and I can relate with the stress of FTO. Nothing is ever good enough for your FTO :)
I can't imagine the hurt your family is feeling with your loss. But I hope they can rest easy knowing how much your story has touched me and many others. It will remind me to cherish every day I put my uniform on. Thank you for sharing your story.

Sincerly,
Officer Thorlacius

Deputy Norris, I have just watched "ROOKIES" on A&E. Your life has touch me in a way that I have trouble trying to explain. Reading your fellow Officers and family members reflections here, it is obvious that you have impacted the lives of many in such a short time. Your family, friends and co-workers should know that your life is still impacting so many more. You are not forgotten. Life is so precious. The only peace that I can find is that God must have needed you more. Its just hard for us on earth to understand that plan.

I pray for your family, fellow officers, and friends. I pray that somehow God has eased the pain of your passing.

Rest in Peace my Brother.

Though I recently resigned as a police officer for an overseas job, I still watch police related television shows. I watched your show tonight and was reminded of the time I spent on field training and the mistakes I made as a rookie. I shared many good times with many officers and wouldn't trade that time of my life for anything. As the show neared the end I was floored to watch that you were taken away from us. You are a hero. You should be proud and I know your family is. Keep an eye out for the officers still on the street. We will see you at the reunion. Rest easy brother.

Dear Deputy Norris' Family, Co-workers, & Friends:
I am the wife of Det/Sgt Tom Cochran who was killed in the line of duty January 26, 2005. Seems like yesterday still. My now 16 year old daughter & I just finished watching the show "Rookies" & my daughter has not stopped crying now for over 30 minutes. Of course from feelings brought back at having lost her own father, whom she was very close to....but mostly at having just watched you; Josh so vibrant, young, working hard at a job you obviously love already knowing the outcome as I looked you up on ODMP where unfortuately my fears of what the show was leading up to were found to be true. I also have a son named Joshua who will turn 21 this December, works as a corrections officer at the Sheriff's office & aspires to be a road officer after turning 21. The program deeply touched myself & my daughter as does every Line of Duty death we hear about, but having just watched you doing ur job, only to have your life cut way too short by a coward. My family's heart goes out to you & your family. Losing my husband is certainly the life I never wanted. God bless u all & safety to all his brothers & sisters in blue. To Josh"s FTO officers....you trained him well. He had the courage to do that job because of ur guidance. God speed to you all. He will watch over you now.
Sincerely,

Jo'Nee Cochran
Spouse Det/Sgt Tom Cochran Lawrenceburg,IN

I just watched your program on A&E, and I wanted to express my deepest sympathies for you and your family; and my genuinely heartfelt respect for you as a man and an officer. Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13. During the end of the program, when your funeral was shown, I stood to my feet to honor your memory and grieve your loss. You were and will continue to be an inspiration. Rest in Peace Officer Norris.

Deputy Norris, it looks like you worked in a rough beat. I just saw the show air on TV tonight and was touched by the events that occurred. This job is a lot of fun, and at the same time very dangerous. Thanks for doing everything you did and being such a role model to officer's nationwide. I can see that you touched the lives of many officers around you, including your FTO's

I will keep your family and colleagues in my prayers, brother.
