Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris
Deputy Norris,
I was watching your episode of "Rookies" and was proud of your enthusiasm for your job. Our society has placed professional athletes on a pedestal for too long and lavished them with ridiculous amounts of money. They are heroes to children yet, we seem to forget who the real heroes are. Josh you are a hero, a young man who gave his life protecting others. I wish there were some way to adequately compensate these brave police officers for what they do on a daily basis. They make far less than one should for doing what they do on a daily basis but, you will always hear them say that they do not serve and protect for the money.
This young man gave his life protecting us and it's such a horrible loss. My heart goes out to his family, fellow officers and friends and I pray for their strength. God needed another strong angel to protect the gates to heaven and Josh is there waiting to greet those who find their way home. Rest in peace Deputy Norris.

Josh,
After watching Rookies last night my heart dropped when they said you had past away. It was so hard for me to see someone alive and ready to get a job done and then know they were killed. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE!

Deputy Norris:
Like many others who have left comments on your page, I too watch the Rookies show on A&E. I love watching the show and was very saddened about your story. Watching your show has made me rethink the way I work everyday. It was such a reality check to view your story, knowing you and I are the same age. I wanted you to know that you are indeed a Hero to many of us out there doing the job. Not that I didnt think about what I was doing before at work, I really think about what I do now.
Deputy Norris thank you for your service and may your family feel at ease knowing your in a better place. You have changed many lives of people you have never met including myself. I will pray for your department, your family and your fiance who had to let a wonderful person go.
You will never be forgotten brother. Rest In Piece. We'll take it from here!

My family and I would like to thank Josh and his family for the service he gave. We, as many, watched the Rookies show in which Josh was featured. It broke this old cop's heart to see such a promising young officer cut down in the line of duty. God bless you Josh, you are deserving of the reward you are receiving at the foot of the Lord. We'll all ride patrol with you one day brother.

I watched Rookies the other night and was very sadden though I knew the outcome from the trailers. I have been a police officer for 22 yrs and was married to an officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1988. My husband was a young, fresh, and excited officer who had only been an officer for 1 1/2. Your episode brought both old and new tears to my eyes and pain to my heart. My thoughts and prays are with you Officer Norris, your immediate family, and your police family. Rest in Peace.

It was sobering to watch on television Josh Norris' training progress from a new rookie to a solo deputy only to realize his fate. I have been on the job for some years now and have rarely been as touched by a story such as I have been by this one. I hope to make Josh's story a lesson in what can happen so that his demise can ensure the lives of officers in the future.
Rest in peace brother, you will not be forgotten.

As many of the others have shared, they felt compelled to write a short note. As I do.
I was impressed with the level of experience Deputy Norris absorbed, due in parts equally, to an excellent FTO, who cared enough to pass along the same information and tactics that would be needed for Josh to do his job effectively and safely. The second part that contributed to Josh's quick ability to learn, was that drive... that drive to serve, and serve selflessly while doing something that you love.
Josh, you are an honor to your department, its officers, and all other officers out there that strive to sincerely and professionally serve our communities.
You will obviously be missed.....

Mrs. Calvert (Deputy Norris' mom),
I am so truly sorry for your loss. Although I reside 1300 miles away from Jefferson Parish, it's amazing what you can tell about someone who is on television for a half hour. What a stand up guy. You did some job raising him. I wish that our paths would have crossed, because I think any one who did get to cross paths with him, is lucky. Your son's episode of "Rookies" gave me chills at the end when his FTO told Josh's story. Your son reminds me so much of myself that his line of duty death really hit home for me, we are very similar in age and from what I can tell, have almost identical personalities. I too am fufilling a life long dream will be a rookie at the begining of next year and hope that I can be as dedicated as him. I am eternally grateful, yet truly truly saddened for his sacrifice and respect him a great deal for what he has done.
Rest In Peace Deputy Norris, you were taken way too young.
Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

Josh, I was watching you on "Rookies". I was so excited for you. It brought back so many memories of when I first started FTO training. Even though I didn't know you, you touched my heart. You are a true "HERO" Deputy Norris. Rest easy friend and may GOD be with your Family and Department.

Josh, I too just watched you on The Rookies on A&E. When it started getting toward the end and talking about you becoming engaged I remembered who you were. My husband and I check the ODMP daily and I remember your story. I always read all of the reflections and it was obvious that you were well loved and thought of by your friends and the police community. I know how hard it is to put on that uniform everyday and go to a job that is pretty much thankless. So I would like to say thank you to you and all law enforcement officers for your sacrifice and dedication.
