Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Joshua Everett Norris

I sat down and watched a replay of Deputy Norris's episode tonight on the A&E website. I must say that my heart dropped to the floor when I discovered that yet another brother in law enforcement lost his life. While watching, I gained so much respect for Deputy Norris not only as an officer, but as a man. The effort that he made to excede the expectations of his FTO's and the noticable impact it made on them when he finished his training, tells me that everyone was pulling for him and respected the seriousness of what he was trying to accomplish in fulfilling a dream. My prayers go out to everyone who knew him. Rest in peace Deputy Norris, and thank you for your service.

I was watching your episode of "The Rookies" on A&E today. I had no idea the episode would have ended like that. I am sorry for what happened. Rest in peace, brother.

Josh Norris,
As a native New Orleanian and former New Orleans Police officer I am truly saddened for the loss that JPSO and your family has endured. I hope to meet you on the other side and shake your hand. You have truly sacrificed all that you had.

Like so many others, I watched the A&E show, Rookies, featuring Joshua Norris. I watched the show again with my sister. My sister was saying how there's such a strong brother/sisterhood with police officers. She said you could go anywhere and that connection will be there. Such a tragic ending for a promising young officer. My heart goes out to the family, friends and co-workers of Josh. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

HEY BOY,

WELL CONGRATS MR. MOVIE STAR! WHEN I GET UP THERE I WANT AN AUTOGRAPH. A&E DID A GOOD JOB ON YOUR SHOW...WISH IT WAS LONGER. IT WAS SO GOOD TO HEAR YOUR VOICE. WELL JJ AND THE DISTRICT WERE WATCHING THE SHOW AND THEY ALL KNEW WHAT WAS COMING BUT COULDN'T HELP BUT CHEER YOU ON ANYWAY WHEN YOU WERE HAVING TROUBLE. JJ EVEN SAID THAT YOUR FTO'S WERE THE BEST THAT YOU COULD HAVE GOTTEN. AND I SAY THEY DID ONE HECK OF A JOB.I KNOW THAT YOU ARE WATCHING OVER ALL OF US, JUST REMEMBER THAT YOU WILL NEVER -NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.

ALWAYS IN MY PRAYERS,

I recently watched your episode on Rookies and I was deeply touched. Thank God I was alone when I watched it for my family would have seen my tears. As an FTO it is one of my biggest fears, losing an officer that I trained, got to know, and having the opportunity to hear about their children. Josh, thank you for your sacrifice, you will never be forgotten.

Having recently seen your episode on "The Rookies" on A&E, I want to express sympathy from my mom and me. Also, what an imprint and a mark left on this planet for good, he who embodied goodness. We watched the episode and the 35 minute online tribute to Josh Norris. He was one of those who put the 'positive polish' on police officers as a profession; he inspires us to polish ourselves for goodness as humans. Thank you for sharing Josh's story with all of us.

I saw you on a television program and both of your FTO's stated that they were very proud of you. At that particular moment, I was proud of you as well. Such an inocent young man, you semmed to have nothing but good intentions. God bless you brother.

I had never heard of a show called "Rookies" or the name "Josh Norris" until last night. After looking you up on the computer this morning, I don't believe I have shed this many tears in a very long time. Early in the shift last night, myself and another officer (both in their mid 40's) had a talk about the lack of motivation and drive among young officers: had we have known you, that conversation would have never taken place. What a damn tragedy. What a loss. What an IMPACT, you made on others. Rest in Peace, Josh...rest in peace

Deputy Norris - I just finished seeing your story on Rookies. I could not control my tears at the end. My heart goes out to your family, friends, and your department.

As someone who has been working the road for twenty years, I have felt I have been lucky not to get hurt doing the job I love. That all changed earlier this year. I was involved in a major accident. No one can explain why I didn't die in this accident. My patrol car was completely destroyed except for the driver's area. After seeing your story on "Rookies", I have no doubt you were there and saved my life.

I am going back to work next week and I won't let you down.
You are welcome to ride with me anytime.

As a FTO I can only pray that I never have that happen...your story just goes to show that sometimes evil wins. I will use your story to show young officers that it can happen to them...even though you are not here with us, you are still handling calls with us..watch over us brother

My wife and I just finished watching the Rookies episode and I can not say how truly sorry we are to the family and friends of Josh Norris. Reading some of the posts though, we were so happy to see that those close to him understand that he died realizing his life's passion and meaning. Many people live their entire lives without accomplishing such an admirable goal.
Knowing at a young age what he wanted to do with his life and achieving it. We saw him grow and be comfortable in his position as a Sheriff. It was heartbreaking to learn of his death. I am glad that his family gave us the opportunity to learn of Joshua Norris and realize the sacrifice he and others have given our communities to keep our families safe.
Our prayers goes out to his loved ones.

Like so many others, I, too, watched the Rookies and was heartbroken at the tragic death of Deputy Norris. There are no words to express the loss his family and friends must feel. Rest in peace, young man. Heroes are never forgotten.

Josh, although your death was senselss it has not been in vain. Through your family's decision to allow your story to be told on A&E it will no doubt help future trainees realize the dangers of their new career and why FTO's take this trainng phase as serious as we do. Thank you for your service and the service you will continue to do through this program and may your fiance, family, and FTO also realize that even though you are not here with them you are training the new rookies through your experience.

Hey Josh. My wife and I watched the show and I thought when I first saw you that you really looked like the all american kid. At the end of the show, I was stunned to see what happened to you. I am currently training a new recruit and I can imagine the sorrow that your training officer must feel. We become very attached to our "rookies" and hope that we will always be able to protect them from the evil out there. Rest in peace young brother and thank you for your service. You will never be forgotten.

Watching Josh on the Rookies TV show reminded me of my own rookie days, and how lucky I was to have survived them. We buried a lot of fine young cops in those dark days, and I still think of them often.

God Bless you Josh, and God Bless those you loved.
