There is no such thing as a routine traffic stop.

To the family, you won't get over this but will get more used to it with time. COPS has a lot of survivor stories. Please lean on COPS. Their survivors are great people.

I'm sorry.

my deepest sympathy goes out to you during this time. it's been a year since my husband was killed in the line of duty, but sometimes it still seems like just yesterday. i remember how difficult the first few months were and i just wanted you to know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. maybe you also find comfort in knowing that officers and their families from all over the country are remembering you. remember david with pride and honor, and, though it sounds impossible now, LIVE ON, because you know that he would want you to.

grace and peace to you,

Dave, It's only been a few short hours that you were so violently taken from us. A lot of us went to the Post after being notified of your death. It's so hard to believe! I just worked with you earlier today! We are
all in shock, but we will band together to get through
this. Connie and your kids will be in my thoughts and
prayers. Watch over your family and friends as we struggle
to get through this. Ginny/Dispatcher but most of all friend.

Rest in peace brother! God bless you and your family.

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

There was a silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his god.

"Step forward now, policeman,
You've born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell"

Deputy Jeff Riggins
Randolph County Sheriff's Dept. IN
