I have only gotten to work with the State Police for a short while. I have come to have a great respect for you. Police officers are a special breed to dedicate your life to others and put yourself in harm's way to protect me. God Bless you and your family.

Today at the graduation for more than 120 new Indiana State Troopers, the following Scripture was read. It reminded me of Master Trooper Rich's sacrifice yesterday. 1 Timothy 4:7,8:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

We will be praying for the Rich family in the days to come, and for the entire ISP family.

My sympathy goes out to the Rich family. We are praying for you all. To my brothers and sisters in law enforcement let’s honor our fallen brother by staying professional in all we say or do. Remember we took the oath knowing we would have to protect all of the best and worse that mankind would have to offer. We do this job out of a sense of duty in our souls. Let that shine even now during this time of GREAT sorrow. Keep the faith and GOD…..PLEASE BLESS AMERICA

~~~Dear One, I see your picture and I look into your eyes and I know you're looking at the face of "GOD". Your ears are hearing "HIS" voice saying "Well Done My Son, Welcome Home". Your lips are singing praises unto your "Heavenly Father". Thank you "Sir" for all you've done for us. Your watch on earth is over. Rest in the arms of "GOD" brother. Sincerely, Julia Jones~~~
Trooper Rich displayed the truest characteristic of a law enforcement officer - he stopped to help someone in need. Unfortunately the person needed more help the Trooper Rich could give. God bless you Trooper Rich, you paid the ultimate sacrifice. Your death won't be in vain, we will carry on from here. Rest in peace, brother.
Who would think that things would go so terribly wrong, when just stopping to help a stranger on the road? Every minute of everyday, that uniform makes you a target. Officers, please keep yourselves safe.
God Bless this man and I pray that You have a place for him in Your heaven. Please Lord, comfort this family today and in the days to come. Amen
Master Trooper/Detective Rich,
May you rest in peace. Every time I see a small garden snake, I will think of you with a smile. Thanks for making us laugh. You were a great man & Trooper here on earth, you have earned your seat beside our Maker! I was thinking last night, I bet Gary met you at the gate! What a wonderful thought.
That is deciet in the most gut wrenching way. When an officer stops to "help" a motorist, only to be ambushed.
To the family: David died a hero and I pray for all of you.
I pray also for the Indiana State Police Barracks that David belonged to.
