Reflections for Master Trooper David Edward Rich
May your spirit have a joyous homecoming! I pray your family and friends will find peace and comfort in the heart felt reflections left by your extended family. "Go rest high on the mountain"

The policeman stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne
where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his god.
"Step forward now, policeman,
you’ve born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
you’ve done your time in hell"

All of us at the ITA are saddened to learn of Dave's untimely death. We were honored to have him as a member of our association for a number of years. Our two goals are to support those who serve and lend a helping hand to those in need. Dave died lending a helping hand to a stranger...."no greater love does a man have than to give his life for a friend". Over the years, we have so appreciated the support we have received from the Rich family. It is our hope that in the days ahead, we will be able to offer the same support to all of you. Our heartfelt thanks to all of you for sharing your loved one with us. He will never be forgotten by the ITA.

Dave it was a honor to have had a chance to know you. You
are the example to follow as a father, Police Officer and friend. I don't think you ever saw it in yourself because you were to humble for the thought of it, but you were one of the most honest, truthful people I have known and when I think of you honor integrity and service are my first thoughts and you were all and more to so many. I pray god looks over your wife, children, family and friends. I know you will be.
No more the bugle calls the weary one.
Rest, noble spirit, all thy work is done.
I will find you and know you among the
good and true.
When a robe of white we're given for your faded coat of blue."
God speed and rest in peace fallen warrior

I am not involved with law enforcement in any way but feel greatly affected by this tragedy and have thought a lot about Trooper Rich's family. I am nobody from no where but I have decided that the next time I see an ISP trooper in an approachable situation that I am going to take time to stop and thank him for what he does. I think we all should.
