Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Michael Page

323, you will never be forgotten. Everyone misses you, but we know you're still with us, in our hearts, forever.

You were an angel watching out for us behind your badge,
You are now an angel watching over us.

Final Inspection
The Policeman stood and faced his God, Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with You?
Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?"

The officer squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Cause those of us who carry badges can't always be a saint.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep,
Though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help, though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me, I wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.
They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand.
I've never expected or had too much. But if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the saints had often trod.
As the officer waited quietly for the answer of his God.

"Step forward now, Officer, you've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's Streets. You've done your time in Hell."

-Peter Hornbach

It is still hard to believe you are gone. I know it has been a year and a half but we still think of you. I know you are watching over us. Thanks for everything you gave. Merry Christmas to your family, we are thinking about them.

I missed seeing you on the website so am here now for the first time on your
1st EOW anniversary. So many speak so highly of you and this is a real tragedy that you weren't able to spend many more years here, making people laugh, doing what you loved to do with people that you loved and that you will miss so many special moments with your wife and kids. What a great loss! It's men like you that make America great and now we just have a name on a wall to remind us of the difficult job officers do every day and the tremendous sacrifice some are called to make. God bless all those who are willing to serve the public in this very difficult and dangerous profession.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Page. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Michael, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Michael's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Michael's life was about so much more than the way he died. Michael will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Deputy Page, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

I ran into a friend of yours over Thanksgiving, and wanted to send my condolences to the family. I lost my brother-in-law(Andrew Esparza IPD #966) in the line of duty in April of this year. Please know that although he is gone, he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace sir, and God speed.

I had met Michael a few times while working with the FD. He always had something funny going. I aspire to be like that even in the tough times. I was there that night the terror broke loose. I have relived it in my mind literaly 10,000 times. I pray that all I tried to do for you was right and I know without a doubt you would have done it for me. The hard thing for me is knowing your children will miss all the humor and love you felt for them as well as your wife and other family. TO YOUR FAMILY:If ever you need any thing at all, just ask and it will be done. The brotherly love we have for each other is only reenforced by adversity. I will never forget what happened that night and never forget what you as law enforcement officers mean to our way of life. With a truly heavy and saddened heart I pray for you and your family.

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,

As the policeman waited quietly,
for the judgment of his god.

you’ve born your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,

Your family is in my thoughts and prayers, thank you for your service and dedication to the law enforcement field, its men and women like you that make everyday a better plac to live.

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

If Tears Could Build A Stairway

If tears could build a stairway
And memories were a lane
We would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you back again

No farewell words were spoken
No time to say goodbye
You were gone before we knew it
And only God knows why

Our hearts still ache in sadness
And secret tears still flow
What it meant to lose you
No one will ever know

But now we know you want us
To mourn for you no more
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store

Since you’ll never be forgotten
We pledge to you today
A hallowed place within our hearts
Is where you’ll always stay

Michael,
You were a very good friend, another one of 'My Boys'. I was honored to be your 'other mother'... When I received the phone call, I was in total shock. Since I have retired I am usually the last to know, I wish that call would never have had to be made. I have seen many officers put themselves into situations that they should not have walked away from, but you were always so safety conscious... We may never know the whole story. God bless you and keep you until we meet again. You would be so proud of how all your friends and the community gathered together to help your family. You will live on forever in our hearts and memories. Rest in peace Monkey.

I appreciate you always having my back no matter what it was. I'll will miss the conversations we had.
