Charlie---its never easy at the end is it--you fought for right and you fought for your life--and inherited the ultimate reward--GOD must hold a special place in his kingdom for those who go forth and do the job you chose--you gave your life for many who dont know and dont care--but for all of us who serve--we understand--we salute you--we will continue to keep the faith--so that your memory will be everpresent in our minds -your example a light to our hearts--your dedication to duty a reminder each day of what counts--YOU WILL LIVE ON---in the light in the eyes of your son as he grows to understand the true hero his father is--a man who laid down his life for others--in the hearts of your fellow officers as they go about their daily duties--in the innermost beings of your family as they remember your life--and in the hearts, minds, and souls of all of us who provide emergency services--we in Buchanan County shall never forget your sacrifice--a memorial at the spot of your death is growing even as I write this--AGAIN--thank you--rest easy--your final call has gone out and you responded--we will see you home and take it from here--GOD will sned his angels to minister to your wife and son--they WILL be surrounded with love and care---thanks for watching over us from above--GODSPEED

i remember what it felt like when i received the news of my husband's death. i know the pain that absolutely rips your heart out. i often think about days when i felt like i couldn't take one more step, or when i felt like the wind had been completely knocked out of me. i am so sorry for your loss and wish that you did not have to walk this road. remember, though, that he was and always will be a hero, and that it truly takes someone very special to go to work day in and day out, knowing the risk, yet rising to the call. you have much to be proud of. though it doesn't seem like it now, you'll make it through - one day at a time, step by step. may it help in some way to know that officers and their families from all across the country are praying for you.
grace and peace to you,

First of all i would just like to thank all of the officers who have sent their prayers and support. Charlie was one of those rare men, a man of quiet strength, of undying modesty and dedication, and unquestioned loyalty. He was a good man through and through, a true cop, and a doting husband and father. May we never forget his sacrifice, may we never forget his voice. I have had no higher honor than serving beside him. He was the best of us.
