Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Deputy Cook has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

God bless Deputy Cook. It wasn't too long ago that an officer on this department died during pursuit of a motorcycle. I can only imagine how your police family is feeling right now, especially not having a suspect in custody. I am sure you lived a heroic life. The policeman squared his shoulders and said,

Because those of us who carry a badge

I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
