Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Charles Cook

In Our Hearts

We thought of you with love today
But that is nothing new
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name
Now all we have is memories
And your picture in a frame
Your memory is our keepsake
With which we'll never part
God has you in his keeping
We have you in our heart

You did not die in vain. Your life made a difference. Thank you for your service. To your wife and child, trust in the Lord to get you through this. I never thought it would happen to me either. The Lord and my children are what is getting me through this nightmare as I am sure you are going through also. My prayers are with you. Stay strong for your child. God bless... His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Charlie ~ To see your sweet little boy play is a blessing and at the same time breaks my heart. Whatever we can do to help him remember and know you as the amazing person you were, we'll do. You are the epitome of a hero, a wonderful man, and a wonderful daddy. You are and will be missed always. You lived and died doing what you loved, being a cop - be at peace, Deputy Cook.

Our Greatest Fear

Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again, I hold back a tear.
They patrol in the state, city, county and town,
in uniforms colored white, green, blue and brown.
The shape of their badges may vary,
but it’s a symbol that they all, proudly carry.
They leave for work with a kiss goodbye,
but some don’t come home, no matter how hard they try.
To uphold the law is the job that they pick,
with such high aspirations, why must some die so quick?
They leave behind loved ones, family and friends,
after their lives have met tragic ends.
Some die in crashes, others hearts not too stout,
to many have been lost when gunshots ring out.
Our Heavenly Father has called them home,
no more these dark streets do they roam.
Through trial and error they have given their best,
please Lord, now grant them eternal rest.
Yet once again the Thin Blue Line is diminished,
an officer’s final tour of duty is finished.
"Officer down", it’s our greatest fear,
and once again I hold back a tear.

Charlie,
I always thought of you as more of a son than a nephew. You were always such a good boy. You turned into a compassionate and caring young man. I miss your sweet smile, your voice and especially your warm hugs. You have been such a blessing to our family. I can't find the words to tell you how much I love you and miss you. I have told the family several times this will not be our last good-bye. When we see you again it will be for the rest of eternity. Love you sweetie, Aunt Juli

Charlie, You were not just a co-worker but a friend. You made work a fun place to be with your jokes and constant smile. Going to work now just is not the same without you. You truly are a hero.

"Loving A Policeman"
As you get ready for work each day
I watch quietly, and to GOD I silently pray
I know you must go, because duty calls
You have to keep the peace and enforce the laws

But each time that we kiss goodbye
It's sometimes hard for me not to cry
As I watch you walk out the door
My heart falls to the floor

For I always know it may have been my last chance
For one more kiss or one last glance
I know I have to always be strong
But I can't help but worry while you're gone

Each night as I lay in bed alone
I pray for the Lord to bring you safely home
I toss and turn for hours, and eventually fall asleep
And I'm thankful when you awake me with a kiss on the cheek

I know what this job means to you
And I also know what the stress can do
So I want you to know just what you mean to me
and I hope I can always be the wife you need me to be.
Love, Melissa

Charlie, we will forever miss your laugh and your smiles.
You will always be remembered as a HERO...... A good Husband, Brother, Daddy, Uncle, and FRIEND.
Please watch over us and keep us safe. We love you and miss you!!! Melissa and Girls.

You were not only my big brother but my best friend, the one who was always there when I needed you, any time of day. Without you everyday is a blur, youre needed so badly and we'll never understand why this happened. You were my rock, Bubby. This feels like a dream that I cant wake up from and I need you here to help me. I know your not here where I can see you, but I know your looking over me. I'm just thankful that we have Trevor to remind us of you. I will do whatever I can for him. You will forever be my best friend, and noone will ever replace you. Rest in Peace Bubby, I Love You Bigger than the Sky.

I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. I find comfort in knowing that so many are looking out for us. Each day is a struggle for me. When I wake in the morning(if I've slept that night), it feels like this is all just a dream and any minute you will be walking through the door, dressed in uniform, just getting off shift. Your son is the reason I carry on day to day. He is the best gift you have given me. When I look into his crystal clear blue eyes, I feel like I can see into your soul. He looks just like his daddy. Charlie, we will all make sure he never forgets you. I promise you with all my heart. We love you.

REST EASY CHARLIE YOUR SON WILL NEVER FORGET THE HERO HIS DADDY WAS. I KNOW THAT I WILL NEVER REPLACE YOU, BUT DON'T WORRY. I WILL BE THERE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T. A POLICEMAN'S PRAYER
BROTHER WHEN YOU WEEP FOR ME REMEMBER THAT IT WAS MEANT TO BE.
LAY ME DOWN AND WHEN YOU LEAVE REMEMBER I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE...IN EVERY DARK AND DREARY ALLEY I'LL BE THERE AS YOU SLOWLY TREAD, ON EVERY STREET CORNER IN THE DRIVING SNOW I'LL HOLD YOUR COAT AND YOU WILL KNOW.
IN PLACES WHERE THE DEVIL IS AFRAID TO WALK...
AT DOORS WHERE YOU MEET RESISTANCE...
IN HOUSES WHERE CHILDREN HIDE...
YOU KNOW I'LL BE AT YOUR SIDE.
THE PLACE FROM WHICH I NOW RESPOND IS OVERSTAFFED WITH HEROES GONE...MEN WHO ANSWERED ONE LAST JOB AND DID IT WELL.
AS POLICEMEN WE UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CARD DEALT IN OUR HAND...A CARD WE HOPE WE NEVER PLAY BUT WE HOLD IT THERE ANYWAY.
THE CARD IS SOMETHING WE IGNORE AS WE STAND ON THAT THIN BLUE LINE EVERY TOUR...FOR WE KNOW THAT WE ARE THE ONLY PRAYER FOR MANY OUT THERE.
SO REMEMBER, AS YOU WIPE YOUR TEARS, THE JOY I HAVE KNOWN THROUGHOUT THE YEARS...AS THE JOB I LOVED TO DO I PRAY THAT THIS THOUGHT WILL SEE YOU THROUGH.
