Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and fourteenth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to the native state of myself and my son Larry. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. Like you, his ancestors also served in North Carolina regiments in the Civil War.
Rest In Peace.

Deputy Sheriff Owen,
It has taken over 112 years, but you are finally being honored. I would like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of Rowan County. It took another four months but your murderer finally got the justice that he deserved.
