We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Sergeant Thompson and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Sergeant Thompson has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.
To the family and friends of Sergeant Thompson, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Sergeant Thompson is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I remember growing up and dancing with your brother and you trying to cut in :) I think you were about 8yrs old lol
Your brother 'Chip' and I were very good friends for years. I ate at your table many times though you were probably too young to remember.
The world is alot less of a wonderful place without you Justin, save me a place at your table.
Rest in peace.

Having lost one of our troopers in December to a car accident, I can honestly say I understand the pain your agency is feeling. I will hold your agency in my thoughts and prayers during this agonizing time. Your officer was obviously an outstanding person and I'm sure you miss him terribly. THE THIN BLUE LINE
Among us, sent down from heaven,
Are those that walk a Thin Blue Line, that's a given.
Like Guardian Angels to watch over me and you,
Are those that wear the uniform of blue.
We see them only as traffic stops,
We do not call them friends, just cops.
We pray we never have a chance meeting,
We never pass along a greeting.
But they are so much more than this,
They simply do not see the world as bliss.
But they look into the corners of our deepest fears,
They walk the beat, they wipe a tear.
They bring a message to our home,
When all is not well, and you are alone.
They come to us, no matter the need,
Handle the problem, complete the deed.
They lay their personal feelings aside,
They do their job, they have great pride.
And if one should fall, among life's things.
The badge they wear, turns into wings.

Corporal Thompson was among the many officers who came over when we lost Trooper Jonathan Leonard in December and showed how the police family extends beyond city, county and state borders. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and co-workers during this time of sorrow.
