Reflections for Corporal Scott Wheeler

Scott,

I know every Sunday you will find a TV and watch your beloved Oakland Raiders. We will miss you and that crazy laugh of yours. We love you brother and will never forget you. My thoughts and prays are with your family.

PFC David Metzler
Howard County Police Department

Scott, you will always be remembered by your fellow Brothers and Sisters here at HCPD. Being a police officer is a calling - not a job. You answered the call in an admirable and heroic manner. You paid the ultimate price
and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

I will always remember your contagious laugh and your bright smile - every time you gave a smile, you got one
back!

God, our Father, has called you Home because your work
here on Earth is done. You will forever be remembered
as a young and vibrant police officer. As Heaven's newest
Guardian Angel, along with our other Guardian Angels Randy and Roger, please watch over us all. Your spirit will continue to walk the halls at Southern District and we will feel your presence often.

You worked so hard for the short time you were here. You deserve to rest in peace for all eternity, seated at the Right Hand of the Father.

"For thine is the Kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory,
forever and ever. Amen."

Scott,
Thanks for the laughs, the smiles, the stories at briefing, backing me on calls and most for calling me when you were bored to see you at Crazy Rays the day I met Karyn (now my wife). You always knew how to bring a smile to eveyone's face. You will be greatly missed and never forgotten. You always told me at briefing I was your hero but you are the TRUE hero.

My deepest thoughts and prayers are with Officer Wheeler's wife, family, friends and co-workers. I was married to Alabama State Trooper Brian Nichols EOW 2/17/2002 and I am now married to Washington County Deputy Sheriff Aaron Carpenter. All of your COPS family is here for you and hurting for you. We all became a family when our loved ones became police officers and now we have even a stronger bond when one of our family members go down. We are here for you to help you along this journey you now have joined with us. God bless you all.

Scott was an amazing officer who took his job seriously. He loved his work and served his community with pride! But above all he was a loving husband and a very caring brother and son. My prayers are with the family who love one another like no other!

Scott,
I don’t know where to start. This all seems like really bad nightmare. I can clearly remember giving you an ear full for not taking the corporals test, but you would thwart my scornful efforts in you own humorous ways. I think it’s the little things about you Scott I’m going to miss the most, like your unshaken loyalty towards those awful Oakland Raiders, your unique laugh and the trail of bird seeds that were a tell tale sign you were in the area. I’m also going to miss seeing your caring nature, your professionalism & courage and how a great cop should work. The citizens of the United States, the great State of Maryland and of Howard County has suffered a great loss when you were taken from us, because the real hero’s are not on TV or in the movies there right here on the front line where you were. Your co-workers/friends are hurting right now Scott, but need not worry. We will pick up the torch and carry on where you left off, because that’s what you would have wanted us to do. I don’t think I’ve cried this much in sometime and pretty sure there’s more to come. We can never ever forget you Scott, because you were not only a cop, but a good friend and a good person. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Your Friend,
