Reflections for Deputy Kelly James Fredinburg
Kelly,
I only knew you for a short time. You sat next to me at the academy and I could always count on you to have a smile on your face. The same smile I see in your picture. God Bless you Brother.
Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Kelly,
Although we were friends in high school, we drifted as people do over the years. Then..I would start seeing you at trainings when we both entered into law enforcement. And then I started seeing you at the jail if we both had a custody at the same time. It was always nice to see you and chat even if it was just for a few minutes. You always had that grin..because the job is a blast.
You were a good man, and a good cop. Your service was something to be proud of.
Rest in peace brother.

I had came across this story and seeeing that this tragic accident happened just last month tore me apart. my prayers are with his family.
To The Family:
I know the accident occured a month ago and the hurt is still fresh, but, some how you will go on but you will never foreget. I know how it feels to have someone you loved just ripped right from your reach. but, he will be always around you even though you cant see him... there will be a certain song that comes on the radio that makes you think of him. that is his way of telling you that he is there next to you and watching you. if you hear a familiar sound or smell a familiar fragrance that his way of letting you know that he is there next to you. I hope my words are words of comfort. take care and my prayers are with you.

With heavy hearts we send our condolences to the Fredinburg family. There are no words that fellow law enforcement officers can express to show the gratitude we have for the brave efforts of people like him. His dedication to duty and to protecting others is quite obvious and we are a stronger profession because of him.
Blessings to you Deputy Fredinburg and may you find the peace that you are well deserved.

I didn't even know you, but I felt like I did. I lost a good friend 2yrs. ago on June 15th. He also worked for M.C.S.O. as a deputy for the jail. A#277, this has hit home for me once again. I was there at your service on the same day we had his June 21st. This was difficult but in my heart I had to be there for you like I was for him. As an agency we lost two precious people, who were dedicated to their job, loyal to their friends, loved their family and always gave 100%. The lives that you touched, the inspiration you gave, and the laughter you brought to those around you will never be forgotten. My prayers go out to your wife and daughters. You will always be in our hearts.

Knowing you has made me a better Christian, a better parent, and a better friend. I was so pleased to know that you had decided to become a part of Marion County. You are a wonderful person, and an awesome Deputy! It is unfortunate that we wait until we have lost the ones we love before we say how much we love them, but I think that you knew how to bring out the love in everyone!Although I want you to be here with your family and friends, I know that God has a plan for you, and that you are still with us and your family. God Bless you Kelly. Stay strong and smiling. We will never forget you or the impact that you have had on us!
