I am so very saddened and outraged to hear of this tragic, senseless loss of a fine officer at the hands of a cowardly, murdering swine. It is a shame that animalistic scum didn't tatke his own life instead of that of a good man.
My heart-felt prayers and condolences are with the friends, colleagues and members of the West family. OFficer West now is on watch with St. Michael's platoon in Heaven. While his last rollcall was held here on earth and we grieve the loss, we also celebrate the life and rejoyce in his eternal life.
We should not count a man's life by years on earth, but by the quality of life and the measure of the man. Officer Jason West was a hero. Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends, John 13:15.
Rest easy brother Jason, we have the watch from here.

The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime,
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
So, if you've a place for me,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I’ve neither expected nor had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Officer West - you have bravely served and sacrificed for those who do not respect you. What a courageous and honorable calling you chose; you will be truly missed down here.
To his family, friends, and coworkers - I know that Jason meant the world to you. This time is devastating and shocking. Please know that police families around the country mourn with you - you are not alone. Also know that his memory will ALWAYS live on in those who carry on in the thin blue line.
Say hello to PO Luke Hoffman (EOW: 4/26/2007). Tell him even though it's been a month, we still miss and love him.
