Officer West, I know our paths crossed on the streets of Cleveland Heights. My heart is warmed by the decision of someone as fine as you to protect us and our children. My heart breaks at this loss. I know you are under God's care. I hope He gives your family some comforting days filled with memories of your life. I pray that your sacrifice is a wake-up call to the citizens and this city to do what they can to STOP every act of violance that enters their life or the lives around them. God Bless all of our Protectors.

A POEM CALLED "THE ROUTINE" Written to pay tribute to all who pay the ultimate price to keep peace.
It was a day just like any other
He kissed his wife, his child’s mother
Out the door he went, and to the station he drove
As he had done countless times down the same roads
When he got to the station everyone said their friendly, “hello”
One asked him, “hey! You want a cup of joe?”
The supervisor entered, and roll call was complete
He grabbed his bag, loaded his car, ready to hit the streets
Out on patrol, the radio crackled, a disturbance was the crime
He knew the house well, having been there many times
As he pulled up, something wasn’t right
There was no loud yelling as on the previous nights
Out of the car, and towards the house he went
Knowing his back-up, dispatch had sent
The door flung open, and before he could react
The husband who had killed his wife, ran at the officer and attacked
The knife went deep, straight into the officer’s chest
Cutting through his bullet-proof vest
He was able to push the assailant away, and stagger back
Shooting the killer before another attack
The officer fell, and the last thought he had
Was of his wife, and child, no longer able to see their husband, and dad
The funeral home was packed with all of his family, and friends
A line of blue, it seemed, would never end
When he got to Heaven the gates were opened wide
An angel met him, and led him inside
For the duty he had done, and price he had paid
God sent a special angel to watch over his family for the rest of their days

Officer West-Thank you for making me wearing my uniform so proudly everyday. It is officers like you that reassure me daily why we do the job we do the job we do. You are a hero, warrior and fellow brother in law enforcement. Having been shot myself on duty 15 years ago, I know how you must have felt. I wish I had been there to fight right next to you in your night of need. Your "bad guy" is behind bars and we will take it from here. Thank you Officer for a job well done. I pray for peace for your family. Rest in peace my brother.

I am so sorry. This is just sickening."You're a Policeman"
Dedicated to Law Enforcement Officers
throughout the United States:
When the hours seem long and the going, rough
When the pay seems small and the criminals, tough
Just square your shoulders and call their bluff
Let them be the ones to cry, "Enough"
You're a Policeman.
When the public scoffs and the papers rave
And blame you alone for a new crime wave
They'll change quick enough when there're lives to save
For deep in their hearts they count you brave
You're a Policeman.
When you bid your loved ones goodbye each day
Don't be too sure you've the harder way
You shoot it out with the crook at bay
They're th eones who sit a home and pray
You're a Policeman.
When you get back home dog tired at night
And wonder if life's really worth the fight
Your cares will vanish and burdens seem light
If you've done your best and your conscience's right
You're a Policeman.
When promotion comes, as it surely will,
If you do your job an dare loyal still
Don't forget soon in your new found thrill
Those others who are plodding up the hill
You're a Policeman.
When you leave at last this worldly din
And seek, like mortals, Paradise to win
Saint Peter, I trust, will o'erlook ev'ry sin
And say, "Well done, my boy, come right in.
You're a Policeman.

Jason, I met you briefly a few times by a mutual friend. Although we did not know each other closely, when in your presence I experienced a warm, caring, vivacious young man. Just know that you have touched so many not only in your passing but in your time living as well. We have lost a wonderful person, but we all know wherever you are, you are smiling. Thank you for your time protecting us. I wish your family strength in their time of sorrow.
