Officer West's sacrifice was made over the Memorial Day weekend, a holiday reserved for those who have honorably served our nation while in the armed forces. I think too many people overlook the sacrifices made by police officers, like Jason. And though he wears a different uniform, his service to his community and our nation are equally appreciated and as equally important. We are forever in debt to those men and women who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while wearing the badge, and Officer West's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

To Jason's family, I would like to echo what so many others have already said about your loved one. I left CHPD about a year after Jason joined us, so I only worked with him briefly. His eagerness to not only do the job, but to do it well and with that trade-mark smile of his is what I remember best. Our paths crossed several times since I left, and he was always quick to come over and say "hello." He loved and did his job well--a fact confirmed by the many testimonials to his memory. My life, and all those lives he touched during his brief time here on this earth, has been enriched by meeting and getting to know Jason. My wife Michelle and I send our condolences.
To our brothers and sisters at CHPD we feel your pain and sorrow. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers--not only today, but always.
"Always remember to forget
the things that made you sad,
but never forget to remember
the things that made you glad."

Blessed are those of us who have called Jason both friend and family. I am proud to have been able to know the boy and then the man behind the uniform. Jason will always remain a loving and caring soul to his family and friends near and far. Nothing will ever be able to take this part of him away from us. Pity those people who could not see this kindness and light in Jason, his eagerness to help his fellow man. Thank you, Jason, for being part of our family and Thank you Georgine, Tom and Ann for sharing your Jason with us.
