Reflections for Officer Jason West
I saw you today, just for a brief moment, as you passed by me in a horse drawn carriage, coffin draped with the American flag, fellow officers in the front and fellow officers in the back. I saw the faces of your family as they walked behind you, saddened, but also proud. I glanced at my children and saw admiration in their eyes, yet sorrow. We will miss you Jason. Your death is not in vein. Your light will shine in the hearts of my children....especially my daughter, who wants to carry on your memory. You see, she has always wanted to be a police officer...and seeing you today just solidified the fact. She wants to help others just like you did. She's a junior at Avon High School, your alma mater. I will make sure she carries on your passion in caring for others. No, Jason, you did not die in vein. You have lit another candle..passing the torch to another future fellow police officer. We thank you and will never, never forget you!

God bless all the work you have done in the community, Jason. You will be missed by so many. You will NEVER be forgotten. Thank you for your service to the CHPD.
To the West family- God is in control now. He and Jason are watching over you and his fellow policemen. I hope through this senseless tragedy you will see how many people loved Jason and appreciated all the wonderful things he did in his short life. My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

He left this world in a hard way to make a soft way for us all. The sacrifices that officers make every day cannot be described in words. My heart goes out to all who have been affected by this loss. This is a loss that knows no limit. When an officer is lost the world cries. They are our parent, our friend, our safety, our security. They are our local soldiers who battle daily for our freedom much like our military does in war. His pain has left. Ours is only beginning.

Office West has given the ultimate sacrifice. May God Bless His Soul and May God Bless His Family. May God watch over - each and every Police Officer as he or she goes out to protect you and I every day

I didn't know you personally, but I am a Cleveland Heights resident. We don't give enough credit to the men and women who put their lives on the line so that we may feel safe at home. You were a true hero, and CH will never be the same. May God watch over your friends and family.

IF I KNEW
If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear
Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

My heart goes out to you and your family. My son in law is a cop in Lexington, KY and he has twin sons, 22 months old. We can't live in fear that he is going to be killed on duty, but it is always there in the back of our minds. I am so sorry for your loss. People like Jason, and Jim L, and Hilton, my SIL, deserve way more than they receive in pay, respect, and gratitude. May God be with you.
