We will never forget those who are no longer with us. Those who gave their all and made the ultimate sacrifice in the Line of Duty. As we cover our badges in black and lower the United States flag to half staff we will remember your sacrifice and the sacrifices of those before you.

Each year we lose countless brothers and sisters in the Line of Duty. And each time another hero lays down their life we pray that it will be the last. But, alas here we are again greiving the loss of yet another hero. Another name which will be soon added to the National Peace Officer's Memorial in Washington D.C. Another life cut short while protecting the rights and freedoms of others.

It is with a heavy heart and great sadeness that we must continue the fight. But, continue we will and prevail we must.In the coming days in communites all across this great land we will honor our fallen brother by continuing his work.

May God Bless the men and women of the Gallipolis Municipal Court, and the family of Probation Officer David Poling.

"I AM THE OFFICER"

I have been where you fear to be,
I have seen what you fear to see,
I have done what you fear to do -
All of these things I have done for you.
I am the person you lean upon,
The one you bring your troubles to -
All of these people I've been for you.
The one you ask to stand apart,
The one you feel has no heart,
The one you call "The Officer in Blue",
But I am just a person - just like you.
And through the years I've come to see,
That I am not always what you ask of me;
So take this badge...take this gun...
Will you take it...Anyone?
And when you watch a person die,
Or hear a battered baby cry,
Then do you think that you can be
All these things you ask of ME?

No, I don't think we can. Thank you for your service - you died as you lived - a hero.
Heroes are never forgotten - they live on in each who know and love them - Dave, your legacy will shine to this world.

Thank you is not enough for all that you are or did, but is the only thing that can be said. Your life is an example to us - we will use it to mold and shape what we want to be because of who you are. We love you so much!

And the Lord said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Peace be with your family - know Jesus has your husband and daddy - he takes the best, if only for a while, until your reunited once again.

The loss of a man such as Dave is a horrible tradgedy. He was not only a great father and husband, he was also a wonderful friend. He was someone to look up too. He will never be forgotten. He will forever remain in our hearts and minds.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Officer Poling and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Officer Poling has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends of Officer Poling, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Poling is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Dave,
You were a great guy the best anyone could have ever asked to know. You had the ability to make us all smile and your own smile we will never forget because it could brighten any room you walked into. You gave your all and I will never forget you. I will keep your family in my thoughts. We are all missing you!

Another tragedy has struck our Southern Ohio law enforcement family. I only worked with you a few times, but in those short hours I recognized your desire and love for this profession. I'm sure that those qualities extended to your family as well. Thank you Brother and rest in peace. My thoughts and prayers are with your family, friends and co-workers.

Dave,

I have photo album that I show every single day to all my future Marines and one picture that I laugh about on a daily basis is when we were at CAX and we hog tied Eisner and Weaver and then used them as hood ornaments; in one of the pictures you are pulling back on Weavers shoulders so I could get a good picture of the tears running down his face, awesome! You will always be remembered!

I met David Poling approximately 4 weeks ago while in town for another tragedy. David was a hard driven very professional guy. Even though I only knew him briefly I would have taken him for my back up on any situation, David is held high on his status among us all. When I saw the news of this tragedy my heart felt like it hit my feet. My condolences go out to David's family, friends, Gallipolis P.D. and the Gallia County S.O for this terrible loss. May God bless us all! Be safe brothers. If there is any thing I could do for assistance contact me.

Dave words can't describe how I feel right now. I keep flashing back in my mind to 1997 when I checked in to Mp Co, and was placed in your fireteam first, and then later your squad. You were the best leader that I had. You served your country proudly, both in the Marine Corps, and as a Police Officer, and I will never forget that I'm "one of your guys" I will miss you very much. Love you brother. Semper Fi Dave.

Michelle I am so sorry that Dave was taken from you and the girls. I wish that I could come home to be there for you. God bless, and help push through these hard times. Love you guys. Greg
