Bob always had a kind word and a quick smile, regardless of the circumstances, for all he met. It was my pleasure to work with him for the past seven years or so during his annual trips to San Antonio for his C-550 recurrent training. He was an excellent pilot and always displayed the highest level of professionalism. He will be missed.

Bob, rest in peace brother. You are, and will be missed. Friendship, Cold beer and Hot nights in Aruba doing south ops and on the Southern Border will be remembered long past the sting of this sad news. You will always be remembered as one of the good guys, one people wanted to work with. Don't worry friend, we got your back.

Agent Robert Smith has touched many, reached out to even more, and his imprint on our lives will always be with us. We were bonded together over similar missions, identical loyalties and the desire to serve and protect our nation and those around us. He will always be in our hearts, minds and circles. He will not be forgotten. On-On to heaven, my friend.

Robert was a man of great character and great talent. I had the honor of knowing him for the past eight or so years. I never knew a person who enjoyed the simple things as much as he did.
While I was a patrol officer he did a ride along with me; this was about three years ago. He really got into it and he really had a great time. We handled a burglary of habitation and he was right there helping me process the scene and helped with the photos. As a pilot he did not get to do a lot of police stuff but he really enjoyed it when he could.
Robert proudly served his country as a Naval Aviator, a Customs fixed and rotary wing pilot, and as a CBP pilot. As a retired soldier and an active peace officer I am glad that such a valiant and noble soul was on our side.
Rest in Peace my brother.
