Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Marvin Jerome Scarlett
North Miami Pioneers Class of '83. I had the pleasure of knowing Marvin during our "younger years" as students at North Miami Senior High School. As I read the reflections of those who knew him later and most recently in life I am not suprised to learn he is thought of as a kind, humble, righteous person. A silent, yet strong leader who was always well liked. As a member of the Law Enforcement Family I extend heartfelt condolences to Marvin's wife, children and family. Go Pioneers!

On May 25 1978, I was born. On May 25, 2007 I had to burry a friend/brother of law. It has been four days since the funeral and it is still being talked about the MOST BEAUTIFUL ceremony for a law enforcement officer. I know Marvin's family absolutely adore him. Marvin, you made your brother proud of you. Lt. Benson said the best poem on your behalf. Maj. McBrayer and Cheif McCart expressed their deepest sympathy for not only the loss for Scarlett's home family but also His Law family. Scarlett, many people came to watch and be apart of your funeral. We made it AWESOME. I was HONORED to carry you to your final resting place and fold your service flag. Again thanks for many precious memories and you still owe me a fishing trip from when we rewired your boat. I will carry you on my shoulder from here on. Your family will be just fine.

The world has lost a very valued person among the very valued persons in law enforcement and the world at large. He exhibited what an officer should be and what a gentleman should be. We, the human race, have lost greatness. My heart goes out to his wife and family.

I worked with Ofc. Scarlett at the Main Jail in Miami, Florida on the 10th Floor. He always carried himself in a very professional manner and was well respected by the officers as well as the inmates. I myself just moved here to Henry County from Miami. I found out he was here from the tragic incident. To his wife and children my prays are with you and know that you are never alone. God Bless.

To Marvin's Family,
I am so sorry about Marvin. I don't know your family, but I'm sure they are special. You see, I am Ed Jackson's Aunt, so I have known Marvin since he was about 13 or 14 years old, and I loved him as he was like another nephew to me. I remember picking him and Ed up from football practice at the boys club (this was before high school). He was always smiling and such a gentleman. Then when my mother was in the hospital, he and Ed would come to stay with her because she didn't like being alone. Sometimes they would bring their homework and stay until visiting hours were over and the nurses would have to ask them to leave. I asked him to ride with my daughter Teresa on the plane to Ed's wedding in Kentucky, because I knew she would be safe with him. She was only about 15 years old at the time. Marvin and Ed remained such good friends because they were so much alike - honest, dependable, sincere, and fun to be around. I truly love Marvin, just as I do my other nephews. I will never forget him as long as I live!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lois Jackson Morgan
